From Academy Award®--winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Thanks to John Carter Files for the heads up.

Also, it seems that studio had a couple of test screenings, and now Josh Dickey from Variety revealed this on Twitter:

It's not much, but this is not the first time I've heard good things about the film. Recently, I was told that the audience really loved the film at one of the screenings and that everyone was really happy with what they saw.

Along Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe, the rest of the cast includes Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church and Ciarán Hinds. John Carter is set to hit theatres on March 9!

Dawnelldo: There is a really good reason why "Mars" is not in the title. If you've read the novel then I think you know. But, if you haven't read it, then you will definitely find out at the end of the film. I don't wanna ruin it, but Stanton made a good decision with the "John Carter" title.

Uh... I think I saw this movie in the '80s. Or maybe on SyFy. Can't remember. Definitely low-budget, though.
