Heading into the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend, all eyes were on Disney Pixar's
Coco as
a potential thorn in the side of Warner Bros.' blockbuster team-up movie,
Justice League.
On Wednesday, the animated film dealt its first blow, dancing its way past
Justice League with an opening-day gross of $13.2 million domestically. Wednesday's total includes $2.3 million in Tuesday night previews.
Coco, which is already the highest grossing movie ever in Mexico, is now easily expected to win the turkey trot with a five-day domestic debut north of $70 million. Compared to other Disney Thanksgiving openers,
Coco - which earned an A+ CinemaScore (Pixar's 6th ever) - is actually behind
Moana ($15.5 million) and
Frozen ($15.1 million), but ahead of
Good Dinosaur ($9.76 million) and
Tangled (11.9 million)
Justice League, meanwhile, took in $10.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $122.4 million. Internationally, however, the film is
faring much better.
Justice League topped China's box office last week with a solid $52.1 million opening, helping boost the East Asian nation to
a record-breaking $7.55 billion in ticket revenue for the year. For the five-day holiday weekend,
Justice League is expected to earn roughly $62 million domestically.

Justice League or
Coco this holiday weekend?
