Cyborg's Origin Story In JUSTICE LEAGUE Is Significantly Different To The Comic Books

Jason Momoa recently spilled the beans on how Aquaman's origin story in Justice League differs to the source material and it's now been revealed that big changes are being made to Cyborg's background too.

There are two different origins for Cyborg in the DC Universe. The first is from the pre-Flashpoint timeline where Victor Stone is experimented on by his parents, employees of S.T.A.R. Labs who inadvertently bring an alien creature into our world that leads to Victor being mortally wounded and his mother dying. It's then that he's transformed into Cyborg and ends up joining the Teen Titans.

In the post-Flashpoint universe, it's an explosion caused by a Father Box which does the damage and his father is forced to use alien technology to rescue his son who later joins the Justice League.

In the DC Films Universe, though, things are going to be different. A new official description for the hero reveals that it's a car crash which leaves this version of Victor mortally wounded and in need of saving by his father and a Mother Box. "Part man, part machine, Victor Stone is a former star athlete at Gotham City University," it reads. "After a horrific car accident nearly cost his life, he was saved when his father, scientist Silas Stone, used an Apokoliptian Mother Box to reconstruct his body."

"In the process, Silas turned Victor into a human computer, organic with biomechatronic body parts. In other words, a cyborg," it concludes. That's a big change but not one which points to Zack Snyder/Joss Whedon not respecting the character's comic book roots. Does this change in Justice League upset you? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on this news in the usual place.

It stills hurts to see all this advertising for Justice League about these five heroes uniting and therefore not see Superman, Green Lantern or Martian Manhunter anywhere.

@TheUnworthyThor -

Green Lantern could appear, save Martian Manhunter as an ally for the sequel with the Manhunters as the villains.

@Scarilian - That's not the same.

@Scarilian - With the white martian perhaps? The Manhunters are Green Lantern villains.

@TheUnworthyThor - I completely agree with you on being disappointed that Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter won't be in the film.

They both have been part of the Justice League for over fifty years and Cyborg won't even be part of the team for ten years by the time the movie comes out.

Not too bugged about this TBH.

I don't care. Its actually pretty good. It has to fit within this cinematic universe anyway, so why complain that "it isn't like the comics!" Its because it doesn't have to be, and after so many years, especially when not sticking to the material was a good thing, why bother demanding for it.

That's pretty much the New 52 origin plus a car accident

I prefer this origin:

HOW he ends up being in need of saving can almost always probably maybe be swapped out so long as it results in his father's doing with a Box.
The car crash just helps ground him a little more. How many of us have been in a car crash over a lab explosion?

Of all the characters in this movie people should care about his origin the least. To me originated on teen titans go lol. That's my favorite iteration of the character. He new to the game.

It actually makes sense considering he is supposed to represent the disabled. A car accident is definitely easier to empathize with than a lab explosion. And the main character conflict is still theoretically there: Victor hates that his father turned him into a machine.

At least, that was the dynamic when he was introduced in the early 80's...I remember because I was there and still have the actual comics. Vic was always maladjusted about the transformation, a far cry from the upbeat "booyah" guy from the cartoons. In fact, the first time I saw that version I was kind of puzzled in a "WTF" kind of way. It's a great cartoon, but that's not really Cyborg from the comics...

Dude, no this is Justice League, not Avengers.
SisterSunday52
SisterSunday52 - 10/17/2017, 8:37 AM
@Pigdango - Actually, they look a hell of a lot like their characters.

Origins are almost all like the comics.
Superman resolved to use his abilities to help others when he was still in grade school.
Batman's origin is exactly the same as always.
Wonder Woman goes to Man's World when Steve Trevor lands on the island.
Any alterations of the other origins seem minimal at best.

While neither Grant, nor Ezra act anything like the Barry Allen in the comics, he still plays to many of the aspects of the Flash.
Jason Momoa looks exactly like the 1990's Aquaman and the Aquaman from the Animated Justice League.
Gal Gadot proved everyone wrong.
Ray Fisher seems perfect for the role.

The effects look incredible.

Yep- You have no clue what you're talking about.

Martian Manhunter or GTFO.

So basically the revised origin is..

He gets mortally injured

Father uses tech to save his life and turn him into Cyborg.

That's like Bruce going to see a musical as opposed to a movie. It's a change that really doesn't matter one bit.

Strange, because it sounds the same as new 52 Cyborg's origin.

Really looking forward to how all of these characters (with the exception of Wonder Woman) are improved in 2018 and beyond as Snyderverse fades into the rearview mirror, especially Cyborg. This iteration of Cyborg looks absolutely awful. He's just a CGI image.
