JUSTICE LEAGUE: One Early Joke Between The Flash & Batman Was Cut Because Of A Profanity Limit
According to Ezra Miller, an early joke in Justice League was cut between The Flash and Ben Affleck's Batman because it contained a curse word that threatened the film's PG-13 rating.
One of the biggest critiques of the DC Extended Universe is how tonally dark the films tend to be. As we've seen from the trailers, Justice League attempts to inject some more fun into the franchise (whether it succeeded is a completely different story).
Ezra Miller's The Flash seems to be the comedic relief, and according to the actor, there was one joke in particular that was sacrificed to ensure the film maintained its PG-13 rating.
"There's a line that I miss from the film, that I wish was in there," Miller revealed to GameSpot. "[Aquaman] throws that thing against the wall in the Batcave, and [Batman's] original line was--I think now he just says, 'Hey. Don't do that.' But the original line was, 'Hey. Don't do that. A lot of my sh*t explodes.'"
As for why it was cut, Ezra hypothesized, "Because, I think, that we only got a certain number of curse words."
Now would that four letter word have actually added anything to the film or improved the review scores? Doubtful, but it's interesting to hear the reason certain things left in the editing bay.
In typical, DCEU fashion, Justice League has less than favorable reviews and currently sits at a 39% on Rotten Tomatoes. On the bright side, that's better than how the DCEU typically fairs with critics; but, unlike the previous films in the DCEU, the pedestrian reviews now appear to significantly affecting the box office.
