What Comic Book Storyline Will The JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie Be Based On?

Another week, another Justice League movie rumor. The folks over at Latino Review - who recently broke the report that Darkseid will be the villain in the DC Comics superhero team-up, which is targeting a 2015 release - have apparently revealed which comic book storyline will inspire the screenplay written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad). According to the site, the script is inspired by Justice League Of America #183-185, which was published back in 1980. The storyline, which was written by Gerry Conway and drawn by George Perez, features the JLA teaming up with the Justice Society Of America and involves Darkseid "planning the destruction of Earth by blasting it with a ray that'll move Apokolips into the Earth's place". No word on just how much the movie screenplay will take from the storyline (for example, Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer took elements from various Batman comic books for The Dark Knight trilogy, though they never fully adapted a single story).

Despite Latino Review usually being reliable (especially with their Marvel movie scoops), it's best to take this news with a grain of salt, and add it to the pile of other Justice League movie rumors that have yet to be confirmed. It was recently reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be reprising his role as John Blake and don the Batman costume for the superhero ensemble, but was since shot down by his reps. Then, Christopher Nolan refused to comment on the possibility of a JGL as Batman cameo in next year's Man Of Steel, which may lead into Justice League as previously suggested by director Zack Snyder. Currently, the search is still ongoing for a director to helm the highly ambitious project. What do you think of this news? Be sure to share your thoughts below.

Sure, Marvel Now! was definitely well planned before The New 52.

Please.....both companies wait for the other to make their move.

I love me some JLA....but this is going to be incredibly difficult to pull off. More difficult than the Avengers was....

That being said...I'm just having a very hard time getting excited for anything JLA related.

If Superman is successful, i think Snyder should do JLA too...his style would suit it.

What Intruder said. Plus...

What I do know about TimeWarner is that when they do get their ducks in a row (this can take years); they will hire a writer that doesn't understand the characters, a director that doesn't care for the characters, and a producer that only wants to make a small fortune off a popular franchise.

We won't get the passion for the characters that MARVEL Studios pours into their characterizations. They want to make money, but they treat their characters with respect.

WB is to much of a bureaucratic mess to ever get it right. There are just way too many people with their hands on the steering wheel.

No way it'll be John Blake as Batman.. They would never have that kind of incongruity between movies and comics. That's like saying there's a character called Superman but he's not actually Clark Kent.
I'll tell you what I think would be cool is if they started out with a Teen Titans movie. Maybe focus on their younger characters instead of the big guys. I think the sidekicks would be more relatable and it'd be a unique way of setting up the 'big guys' movies..
But yeah, just dreaming over here.

But they probably won't say anything until MoS is out and they see how it does.

This article is just pure fantasy please CBM check these stories out before they are released on this site. A fanboys dream story or what he thinks would make a good story is not news its fan fic. Sorry but I'm fed up with ppl speculating then trying to pass it off as news or worse fact.

@Spoilers ya i mean theyre not copying marvel at all becuz they had a justice league movie in preproduction in 2007 thy had the cast suits set pieces then writers strike happened and wb decided they didnt want two different batmen on screen so they waited til the batman movies were over with just so happens that avengers came out around the same time the last batman movie came out do your research there genius

i think they should go with brainiac as the villain.instead of using darkseid

I think using New 52 JLA would be ideal. It's still edgy, but also has a Joss Whedon-esque flavor to it.

@Happy11: Yeah, because LR speculated about Thanos in Avengers, Ben Kingsley playing Mandarin, Guardians Of The Galaxy in 2014, and other "fan fic" stories that ended up being true.

If this movie is ever to be done, there are only two men who could do it, and give us a movie that is at least the equal of The Avengers: Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. If they can ever be convinced to try their hand at live-action, they would give us a story worthy of the Justice League and a movie that would be a ton of fun like what the Avengers was. I know, wishful thinking. Hey, other people have their ideas on who should direct this film, that's mine.

I like the idea of Darkseid as the villain. A 1980 story? Awesome! That's long before all that "dark" shit came along and ruined comics. We'll see heroes acting like heroes, not all emo and whiny, and having to be forced into stepping up to save the world.

I also do hope they follow the Avengers formula of introducing some of the heroes in their own movies, and establishing a common bond that will be used to bring the team together.

Marvel copies DC
DC copies Marvel
...since the beginning of time. The cycle continues.

Everyone needs to settle down whenever these rumors come out. Don't take it with a grain of salt, take it with an entire salt mine. It's worth hearing and considering, but use reason. Could this be a story arc they could use? Hmm, possibly. Is JGL gonna be batman? No, most likely not. There isn't even a director yet there is not gonna be a cast yet. Use your brains and calm down.

Wasn't this the story the CW [frick]ed up in the Smallville finale? Darkseid trying to move Apokolips into Earth's position?

You can't do the JLA's major baddie first. It's just like Green Lantern and look what happened with that? If you do Darkside first, what 's the follow up? The Key?
maxxgone
maxxgone - 12/13/2012, 10:23 AM
my biggest worry so far is the JGL/blake/batman/[frick]ing whatever, nonsense. it would not bode well for them to start off a franchise by excluding, arguably its most important member.

until that's resolved i can't even get excited or upset about this mess.
rockerdude22
rockerdude22 - 12/13/2012, 10:26 AM
So, the Justice Society would appear too? There would be two teams in the film? I'm sorry, but that has disaster written all over it. Introducing two teams at once with no build-up whatsoever is a bad idea.

WB, please think this through and make it right! We fans have been wanting a JLA film for a long time, and we don't wan't it to be screwed up!

@Spoilers: the stupidity is strong with this one.

But people are mentioned why that post kind of failed. However this whole "oh they just ripoff of each other thing" doesn't really make a lot of sense. Marvel, oh yeah BIG TIME they do this most of the time it's just for a cash grab or something like that. DC, the only time I could recall any possible ripoffs was something Jeph Loeb did and lets face it... It's Jeph Loeb and all it was is a parody of the avengers.
