BOX OFFICE: KICK-ASS 2 Slips Down To #9 In Its Second Week Of Release

Kick-Ass 2 was at one point expected to open at #1 last week, but box office analysts and fans alike were shocked when it ended up debuting at #4. Well, thanks to several new releases this weekend, the sequel has already almost dropped out of the Top 10! Read on for details.

In yet another crowded weekend at the North American box office, a variety of new releases have underperformed or finished in places no one expected, bringing a strange and shocking summer to a fairly underwhelming end. Like last week, Lee Daniels' The Butler and We're The Millers have held onto the #1 and #2 positions, while the debut of several other new releases may be the final nail in Jeff Wadlow's big screen adaptation of the Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. comic book series. Kick-Ass 2 only cost $28 million to produce, but with a current domestic cume of only $22.4 million and the fact that it's now sitting at #9, the chances of the third instalment being made now seem slim. However, the sequel did open in many other international territories this weekend, so there's still time to turn things around. Here is this week's Top 10 based on the latest estimates.

The fact remains that the film cost somewhere in the region of $28 million Dollars to make and the figures given here are only the US domestic Box Office take.

The Hollywood film industry now recognises the importance of other territories in their number-crunching, which will double the US takings, so to class this as a flop is so far removed from the truth it's a joke.

It will, after all the ticket and DVD/BR sales, more than likely triple its outlay.

There will be a third film, make no mistake about that.

I need to see it..all the other Top 10 films on list are kinda weak.
Elysium was a let down but I did enjoy You're Next,it was low budget-cheap horror-fun.

Will wait for At The Worlds End & Were The Millers on DVD.

Saw this movie last night. All I can say is that this movie was HORRIBLE! Only things I enjoyed were Hit-Girl and The MFer. Ugh...

At least, I'll be seeing The World's End today. Woohoo!

I saw it yesterday and it's terrific. This is yet another case of a batch of critics killing a good movie. As long as people think trash like Rottentomatoes.com is legit (it is not - it is purely editorial run. If you don't believe me, check out the amount of reviews that are left off the compilation if the editor disagrees, or the amount of splats that are stuck onto positive reviews), we will see comic book movies slowly disappear. People should read this website's excellent "5 Reasons You Should Ignore Critics And See Kickass 2 Now".

Maybe now Mark Millar can shut up and stop telling everybody how difficult it is to make DC characters movies and start working talking his properties off the ground correctly. And everybody GET IT international box office is not that relevant for the studios since they only get like 35% out of everything the movie makes overseas, and since the movie needs more budget overseas, when it not sells well in its original market soné studios decide not to go internationally since it may be a lot more loss.

Misleading description is misleading. Let's be honest, only three of the movies that beat KA2 were in their first weekend. Most of the movies ahead if it in the box office came out the week before KA2 did, which does not bode well. Here, let me fix it.

I'd rather they didn't make a 3rd one, but most likely will just to get a trilogy out...

Something just felt missing from this movie... Like it's soul.

I enjoyed the 1st more. This wasn't horrible, just not really great.

Maybe they should find another actor for Quicksilver.

Ive never liked actors playing two different heroes.

Great way to put it. It takes balls to cast an Evan's, Reeve, Hemsworth for the lead in a superhero film.

We've heard how WB wanted Warren Beatty, Redford, Burt Reynolds and other then A-Listers to be Superman and casting Affleck was that type of "Go with a star" decision.

Kick-Ass 1 was awesome and was easily one of my favorite CMB of all times. Kick-Ass 2 was meh.... Kick-Ass 2 was just a sloppy movie that tried and fail to tap into what made Kick-Ass 1 so good.

The thing wasn't really marketed at all......I hardly saw any commercials for it.....plus its Rated R.....that has to have some impact. Its not like you can take the family to it or anything.

KA1 was ok, but nothing special. The comic had something visceral and honest about it, but the movie was too Hollywood for me to do any more than simple enjoyment. Not anxious, not excited, not stunned... just humored. If somebody paid for my ticket, I miight go, but still unlikely. At least Nic Cage isnt in it :\

ManofKrypton: I did not realize there is such a divergence in box office between the US and the UK. Interesting. US cinema is in a low point. For a non CBM example, Billy Bob Thornton wrote and directed a film that what shot not far from my home, with a bad ass cast Robert Duvall, Kevin Bacon, etc., and it apparently went straight to video/DVD release, yet We're the Millers is near the top of the US box office. Sad.
