Kevin Feige Says Plans For The MCU's Next Big "Saga" Will Become Clearer "In The Coming Months"

As Marvel Studios' Phase 4 nears its end, Kevin Feige has teased plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's next "big saga," confirming that fans will learn more over the next few months.

As soon as the Infinity Stones were introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it became pretty clear that Marvel Studios was building towards some kind of adaptation of The Infinity War/Infinity Gauntlet storylines. This "Infinity Saga" culminated with Avengers: Endgame, but most of the studio's Phase 4 projects have been a little more standalone in nature, making it more difficult to predict where things might be going as we approach Phase 5.

The Multiverse has obviously been one major recurring element, and there's a lot of speculation that The MCU's next big event could be a take on Secret Wars. This does seem like a fairly safe bet given everything we've seen play out in the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but there are numerous other possibilities.

While speaking to Games Radar, Kevin Feige revealed that answers are coming soon (maybe even within the next few months), and said that there have been "many clues" already.

“As we’re nearing the end of Phase 4, I think people will start to see where this next saga is going. I think there have been many clues already, that are at least apparent to me, of where this whole saga is going. But we’ll be a little more direct about that in the coming months, to set a plan, so audiences who want to see the bigger picture can see a tiny, tiny, tiny bit more of the roadmap.”

Thor: Love and Thunder is next up in July, but we don't anticipate Taika Waititi's sequel dropping too many hints about what's to come. Promotion/marketing should kick in for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever by the end of the summer, though, so maybe that's what Feige is referring to? The rumored war between Wakanda's forces and Namor's people certainly sound like it could have some game-changing stakes.

Whatever this next big event turns out to be, you can bet Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror will serve as the big bad (or one of 'em, at least), and we also expect the Fantastic Four to be involved in some capacity.

@Urubrodi - Sorry but the MCU is downgrading pretty significantly in my opinion. I care more about The Boys then anything Marvel has currently planned besides X-Men and F4.

@Godzilla2000Zer - It's not random, it's just bigger. There's going to be be more moving pieces and we're 100% getting secret Wars.

Phase 4 is the birth of the multiverse, and the government creating the Thunderbolts in a Post Avengers World.

We're going to have 2 problems moving forward. Defeating Kang who rules the multiverse and the Celestials who will send Galactus to destroy Earth.

There will now be 2 big issues, who will take over the multiverse now that Kang is defeated, and how to stop the incursions taking place across the multiverse (this was hinted in Dr. Strange 2).

This is when Doom will take advantage of this chaos to become the ruler of the multiverse, becoming God Doom and we're now ready for Secret Wars. Kevin Feige can now retire, and we can reboot the MCU

@Deonox - I was following you and agree with your predictions until you got to the part about the Celestials sending Galactus. The reason Galactus eats worlds is to mitigate Celestial reproduction and to prevent Celestial emergence's like Tiamat's in Eternals by consuming the Celestial embryo.

@Godzilla2000Zer - Randomness? You've gotta be blind not to see what's being setup. And it's Marvel Studios' entire M.O. to setup long form storytelling. Everything we're getting now is 100% not randomness.

@Jackraow21 - They never lost it. We just don't know the full picture yet. Really starting to be an annoying trend that people write off an evolving story as not making sense.

@Godzilla2000Zer - 🎯 The next Big "Saga"? I'm still waiting for significant things in this saga. I think it's time to be honest:

The true villain of phase 4?

Picture this: Disney was given the heads up about a new "virus" coming around the corner.

Make preparations.

Disney's response:

Disney +.

The phase has been fluff, and MARVEL knew our thirst for their success could keep the engine going.

Mark my words: Phase 5 is going to make 4 look less relevant than phase 2. Just watch.

@Urubrodi -
Let's break this utter mess down:
• Black Widow introduced Thunderbolt Ross as a threat, actor is dead and was revealed as having sexual assault claims so this is going nowhere other than his name being used for Thunderbolts.
• TF&TWS set-up Valentina Allegra de Fontaine who has already failed in her attempt to manipulate Yelena hiring US Agent presumably for Dark Avengers/Captain America 4.
• Shang Chi introduced the idea of the Ten Rings calling to something/someone that nobody knew about
• WandaVision stated Wanda would destroy the entire multiverse
• Spider-man:NWH has effectively used up every main Spider-man villain in the MCU other than Venom and given everyone has forgotten him its likely the next Spider-man movie will focus around Miles instead
• Doctor Strange 2 set-up the concept of Incursions, but did not flesh them out or explain them and set-up Clea having Doctor Stranges help to prevent an incursion in the Dark Dimension. The threat in Doctor Strange put the entire multiverse at risk so anything else is a downgrade.

So we don't honestly have any set-up except for the Ten Rings post-credit scene, in a movie that failed to make a profit and is banned in many areas of the world.

@Drace24 -
The reboot is coming, likely at the end of Phase 5 or end of Phase 6.

At that stage the franchise will have been going for nearly 20 years and the weight of continuity and its contradictions will have a drastic impact on the attention span of its viewers. Marvel will use this excuse to do a full reboot and in the process introduce the X-Men. The prior continuity will still exist, but they won't acknowledge it in film. Kang is the catalyst.
Deonox
Deonox - 6/20/2022, 4:12 PM
@Godzilla2000Zer - That's fine if you're not sold on the idea, but I feel that makes perfect sense with what we have so far. There's a seat at the end of all things, and if Doom gets up there, then he becomes God Doom. Just like how Infinity War and End Game are very different from Infinity Gauntlet, I believe so too will Secret Wars

@Scarilian -
The Thunderbolts ARE set up though and have a writer attached. Who's to say Yelena wont be on the team. She's still taking hit jobs.

Shang Chi teased the Rings being ancient, and are probably connected to the Eternals

No it stated Wanda is a nexus being and she's obviously not dead. Also Multiverse of Madness teased incursions, but that's going to be a plot point of something to come down the line. We still haven't received the pay off just yet.

Honestly this feels like back when everyone was saying Avengers the MCU was done because Age of Ultron was bloated and had somethings not make sense. If you're not into it so far, thats fair, but jeez

Godzilla2000Zer - 6/20/2022, 4:26 PM
@Deonox - I hope you enjoy I just think Marvel's has not been up to the quality of there older films to me at least and I am on the verge of jumping ship.

Godzilla2000Zer - 6/20/2022, 4:27 PM
@MILESSPIDERMAN - Black Panther 2 says otherwise. They're willing to spend extra money for more Stan Lee cameos but can't recast an iconic important character like T'Challa and for Kevin Feige to say that Chadwick performance transends the character is utter bullshit and I love and miss Chadwick but I love T'Challa more because that's the character I waited years for and they wouldn't dare do this to any other character. I'm a disappointed fan who been questioning decision after decision and being let down for the past 3 years by movies or shows that I don't even like.

Godzilla2000Zer
Godzilla2000Zer - 6/20/2022, 5:26 PM
@Tonic24k - So me having an differing opinion is a dumb complaint. I just don't like the direction they're going because in my opinion it is unfocused and random have they even addressed Arishsem literally showing up in front of the Earth in front of everybody to see that should be a pretty big deal. If Wenwu was the leader of the Ten Rings then why not introduce him earlier in an Iron Man movie. Why make Black Widow film after you've already killed the character which was filler. And why not recast an important character like T'Challa yet wanna keep having these Stan Lee cameos that's not even the real deal. Kevin Feige did a great job in the past but he's not perfect and Phase 4 is showing that unfortunately. If you still enjoy the MCU great but me there's a a lot of things they've done these last few years for me to say I'm about done with the MCU with the exception of X-Men, F4 and Daredevil. Did enjoy Dr Strange and NWH and I'm expect I'll enjoy Thor.

@Scarilian - not happening for well over 10-15 years. They are still in their infancy of storytelling and Feige had said in 2016 that they were mapped out until 2028 IN 2016.

Vanillain
Vanillain - 6/20/2022, 5:51 PM
@Godzilla2000Zer - Hmmm. The studio that planned out 20+ films for one saga, cross-markets their characters, knows full well that it's these large-scale plans that it's fandom loves, still has decades worth of grand storytelling from it's source material - suddenly decided to go random-bullsh*t-go-pew-pew.

Yeah, makes total sense. 🙄
Godzilla2000Zer
Godzilla2000Zer - 6/20/2022, 6:08 PM
@Vanillain - DC also has decades worth of source material and did that help them not at all and it's currently not helping Marvel either. I've already explained why Marvel dropped the ball for me and I personally refuse to believe that Kevin Feige's plan is exactly the same as he did when he first envisioned it. Inhumans, Spiderman the Fox deal and Black Panther are proof of that.
