Full Circle Cinema is reporting that Harriet Sansom Harris is among those set to star in Marvel Studios' Werewolf by Night. While the Halloween Special still hasn't been officially announced, production has wrapped and it's expected to be unveiled during Disney+ Day on September 8.
According to the site, Harris is playing a cult leader "from the house of Bloodstone" called Verrusa.
There isn't a character with that name in the comic books, but the Bloodstone name should be instantly familiar. Elsa and Ulysses are prolific monster hunters on the page, while Laura Donnelly is rumoured to be playing Elsa in this Disney+ standalone tale.
Here's where we get into potential spoilers; according to various rumours that have been doing the rounds, Verrusa (this is the first time we've heard her name mentioned) assembles a group of monster hunters to retrieve the Bloodstone. Werewolf by Night poses as one of them, but later learns that they're searching for Man-Thing and that he's among those being hunted down by this group.
Whatever the plan may be for the special, we're definitely intrigued. There have been rumblings that it will be released in black and white, while Gael García Bernal has been tapped to play the title character.
As for Harris, she's taken on a number of big film and television roles. Perhaps best known for her work in Frasier and Desperate Housewives, she's also appeared in the likes of Licorice Pizza, Addams Family Values, and Phantom Thread.
Marvel Studios is clearly embracing the supernatural as we head deeper into The Multiverse Saga, and with Blade also on the horizon, Werewolf by Night feels like the opening salvo in this new era of storytelling. Again, we're keeping everything crossed for a first look next week, so you'll want to keep checking back here for the latest.
Werewolf by Night is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime this October.
