We're now just over a month away from the release of The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man reboot, and Universal Pictures/Blumhouse have shared a new TV spot.

Our first look at what was assumed to be the titular Wolf Man via an actor in a costume at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights was met with a lot of backlash, but the most recent trailer appeared to confirm that this will be the creature responsible for the initial attack, leaving Christopher Abbott's Blake to change into a different beast altogether.

This TV spot begins with Blake, Charlotte and their daughter Ginger narrowly escaping an attack from a mysterious creature after an accident leaves their car hanging precariously from a tree. The trio manage to make it to their cabin, but after being bitten by the werewolf, Blake begin to undergo a terrifying transformation.

While speaking to Empire, Whannell revealed that he would like to direct another classic Universal Monster movie if given the opportunity.

"My own weird filmmaker OCD is almost like, 'Well I've made two, I have to do three.' It has to be three," he said. "But that's got more to do with my own neuroses than me actually wanting to do it. In my general life, I'm a pretty strange guy with my habits. I have to leave when it's an even number, like, 8:20, not 8:19, which is crazy. I'm probably revealing to you how crazy I am. So on that side of my brain, I gotta do a third one to complete the trilogy."

If given the opportunity, Whannell already knows which property he'd most like to tackle next: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

"As a kid, the idea that they were both the same person was always super interesting to me," he explained. "That's up to Universal. If they said, 'We want you to be the monster guy,' that would be flattering to me. Like, 'Wow, they're entrusting me with this thing that's so important to them.' But I'm not gunning for that role."

Check out the new teaser below.

What if someone you loved became something else?

From Blumhouse and visionary writer-director Leigh Whannell, the creators of the chilling modern monster tale The Invisible Man, comes a terrifying new lupine nightmare: Wolf Man. Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott (Poor Things, It Comes at Night) stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte (Emmy winner Julia Garner; Ozark, Inventing Anna), fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth; Hullraisers, Coma).

But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without.

The film co-stars Sam Jaeger (The Handmaid’s Tale), Ben Prendergast (The Sojourn Audio Drama) and Benedict Hardie (The Invisible Man). Wolf Man is directed by Whannell, whose previous films with Blumhouse include The Invisible Man, Upgrade and Insidious: Chapter 3.

The screenplay is written by Leigh Whannell and Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo (Dumb Money). The film is produced by Blumhouse founder and CEO Jason Blum and is executive produced by Ryan Gosling, Ken Kao, Bea Sequeira, Mel Turner and Leigh Whannell.

Wolf Man howls into theaters on January 25th.

So how many times has Universal rebooted Wolf Man and Dracula to kick off a new monsterverse?

Jekyll and Hyde is a public domain story, so he technically doesn't need Universal specifically to give him that project, but I guess having it be connected to/a remake of the Universal Monsters version would make it more connected to the other two projects and therefore "an actual" third one.

@FinnishDude - The Oscar winning, genuinely awesome, 1931 Jeckyl & Hyde was actually by Paramount. It’s honestly better than all the Universal monster flicks save Bride of Frankenstein & The Invisible Man. Universal’s jeckyl & hyde only existed in the abbot & costello crossover w/ Karloff as hyde

If this turns out as well as I think it will , I wouldn’t mind him being given a shot at Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde atleast if not overseeing Universal’s monster catalog.

It would be interesting to see his take on that IP after the more suspense sci fi horror with themes of domestic abuse in The Invisible Man and the seemingly body horror of The Wolf Man.

Anyway , I liked The Invisible Man so looking forward to this as of now since it seems fun!!.

Hey, kids! Let's not create anything new and just reimage EVERYTHING.

I'm worn the [frick] out on rebooting IN NAME ONLY all the [frick]ing time.

This actually seems more like a reboot of WOLF without peeing on James Spader, which is crucial to the story, IMO.
