AMAZING SPIDER-MAN And STAR TREK: THE WRATH OF KHAN Composer James Horner Dead At 61

We're very sad to report that film composer James Horner was killed in a plane crash Monday night near Santa Barbara. Horner won Academy Awards for his work on Titanic and Avatar, and is also known for scoring the likes of A Beautiful Mind, Braveheart, Apollo 13 and Field of Dreams.

Reports are coming in that composer James Horner was killed when the plane he was piloting crashed 60 miles off the coast of Santa Barbara. By all accounts Horner was an experienced pilot, but we have no information on the circumstances surrounding the accident. Sylvia Patrycja, one of the passengers on the plane and Mr. Horners assistant, had this to say on facebook.

"We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart and unbelievable talent,He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road."

James Horner is credited as composer on 158 movies dating back to 1978's The Watcher. His final two films will be Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw and the Chilean miner film The 33.

What a tragedy. He was a fantastic composer- my favorite.

@StopRogerWardel - yeah, Charging Fort Wagner is truly special, even for Horner. Not to mention "The Launch," from Apollo 13, and too many others to mention.

A real loss, not only for Hollywood, but music fans everywhere.

Holy crap. I just heard his Wrath of Khan score the other day. One of my favorite Star Trek, let alone movie scores. This guy will be missed. I even liked his work on TASM. It was miles better than whatever junk Zimmer's score was supposed to be in TASM2.

The track "Lonely Christmas" from the Glory soundtrack is going through my head now.

As I already said on another thread.James Horner has a place on the soundtrack of my life
along side John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. Since I first heard his rousing naval themed
soundtrack for Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan in 1982,I have managed to tough base with
Mr.Horner's work in the cineplex every few years and he never disappointed.

His music from the funeral scene in TWOK,and the ending scenes of Glory and Braveheart
brought tears to my eyes and added so much power to those films.

My cinematic music world just got a lot smaller. You will be missed Mr.Horner.

RIP.

I'm sorry, I mean "Touch base" I'm a little melancholy with all the good cinematic memories
Mr.Horner contributed to.

I would also add that the Glory soundtrack was the first one I bought in CD form back in February 1990.

I remember it so well because thats when I got back to the states from a tour in Japan with the Marines
and the first thing back in California I did,was see that film.

What a loss.

RIP, Mr. Horner :'(

I liked a lot of his work, but the music for Braveheart is one of my favourite soundtracks ever. It might not have been a perfect historically accurate representation of characters and events, but it was a damn great movie, and Horner's music added a lot to that.

See, this is why famous people shouldn't ride in private planes. Just ask JFK Jr, and Ritchie Valens. Anyway, very talented man. RIP
