Comparison: DareDevil vs. Green Lantern

I compare Marvel's Guardian Devil and compare his film to The Emerald Knight's.

If I had to chose which one I liked more, I'd pick DareDevil but I'm gonna take and fairly compare the Gaurdian Devil's big screen debut and compare it to The Emerald Knight's debut.

An imidiate difference between the two that people can tell is the tone of each film. DareDevil has the appropriate tone needed for it's movie which was a dark, violent tone while Green Lantern was also appropriate but more family friendly.

Hero

Let's start with The Man Without Fear, DareDevil. Ben Affleck was great as Matt Murdock/DareDevil, there is no denying that. He didn't seem so to most because of the writing of Mark Steven Johnson (we'll get to him later) and the character was tragic and dark like he is suppose to be. We felt bad for the character, somewhat. Green Lantern is different, he is light hearted and fun risk taker. Unfortunately, you couldn't believe that Ryan Reynolds was the character due to lack of development in the character and the origin itself. The sad part is, DareDevil had more origin development but shorter run time. Ryan Reynolds was good but the fall here too was also writing.

Love interest

Both actresses were good in their roles although I prefer Blake Lively as an actress as a whole. Jen Garner's Elektra was good the first viewing but after awhile felt more like a plot device than anything else, while Blake Lively's Carol seemed more as a throw in character to have romance in the film. Her character seemed more interesting than Elektra somehow though. Overall even though I like them both in different ways, they both fall flat on their faces.

Villains

Lets start with Green Lantern this time. Parallax and Hector Hammond, I felt both villains were lackluster. That's putting it lightly, I feel the drama in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and it's child actor were more intimidating than the villains in Green Lantern. I know that's harsh but the villains flat out sucked! Kingpin and Bullseye were the complete opposite. It was fun watching Colin Farrell take his charasmatic acting and placing it in Bullseye and Michael Clarke Duncan (R.I.P) as Kingpin was just one thing after another to look forward to. While they had a little bit more development, I thought it was more entertaining to watch the villains in DareDevil rather than being bored watching the villains in Green Lantern.

Directors

I think Johnson looks better with facial hair but couldn't find a good picture. Either way, he looks like a total fruit. Now that, that's out of my system. I admire MSJ's passion for DareDevil and Ghost Rider but both films were bad. Ghost Rider was better but is that really saying much? He would have done a better job with DareDevil had his writing been alot better but overall YOU SUCK! Martin Campbell, like Ryan Reynolds isn't to blame for Green Lantern's failure. It's the lackluster writing. Overall, I like you better.

Final thoughts: Both were bad films but in different ways. DareDevil would have been good had they gotten a different writer and Green Lantern would have been good had they gotten better everything except director. DareDevil is getting the reboot treatment and rumor has it so is Green Lantern. Wouldn't that be the smart thing to do? Just saying. Again, I personally prefer DareDevil because it's easier to watch and it's more entertaining on every level possible. Here is to a better DD movie hopefully turned trilogy, same to Green Lantern.

I'm just wondering why these two films are even being compared? They are two VERY different movies. You might as well compare Harry Potter with The Green Mile.

I actually didn't mind Daredevil. Sure it could of been better, but there were a lot of good and interesting concepts in the film, not to mention it was pretty close to the source material (well, the origin is more the Animated version, but whatever) and has a lot of dialogue straight from the comics.

I look forward to the reboot and seeing Daredevil with the Avengers, but the original isn't as bad as everyone says.

@Darklypse: It was a bad movie but one I could really enjoy at the same time. I hope to god they don't have DareDevil with The Avengers because he just wouldn't fit into their universe

Daredevil's actually pretty good, I don't get (all) the hate. You may want to proof-read your articles a bit - I mean Word is really the only tool you need, and Mozilla usually helps you out there.

But yeah... why compare the two?

I've been wanting to do another comparison for awhile now and I meant for this one to be a comparison of the two as movies and not to be targeted as comparing them as comicbook movies.

I didnt have many problems with dare devil but the problems i did have really hurt the movie for me (i liked it but....) 1. Garner cant act. She has a bangin body and all but she just isnt a very good actress. 2. The F/X drove me crazy, DD bouncing on the church organ pipes was just silly. Silly. 3. Changing the King Pin.. i love michael clark duncan, i think he was one of the best big man actors ever, but i didnt like the change in king pin. I wanted a big ass white guy in a white suit just like i grew up with. I loved Bullseys portrail in the movie, im not a huge collin farrell fan but i dont dislike him. I thought they did a really good job with him. I also thought ben aflek was very good as DD/Murdock. It was close to being a really good movie, not just a good cbm. As far as the green lantern goes, for me, it was a complete miss. I cant take ryan reynolds seriously at all (watch the movie Waiting, i dont care how many sit ups reynolds does, thats how i see him... "Shinnanigans"!) I wont go over all the things wrong with GL. But DD was much closer to being a very good movie. Elektra, however, sucked ass.

@ thelizard

Daredevil is actually great fit for the Avengers. In the comics, the only reason he was never on the team is because his personal life was always a complete mess. But he IS an Avenger now.

Having said that, i feel like they should do an entire DD trilogy. At the end of the first film it should show Cap try to recruit him, but have DD turn it down. Then at the end of the third and final DD film, theh should ask him again, and he accepts.

Then the DD movoes are over, but we still see him in Avengers.

I think that would be the way to go, build toward it. Marvel doesnt need to shoe-horn every solo character into Avengers.

Doc Strange would be a good example of someone that doesnt fit in with the Avengers. At least not as a regular member. He should be someone they go to cor help on occasion.
