If I had to chose which one I liked more, I'd pick DareDevil but I'm gonna take and fairly compare the Gaurdian Devil's big screen debut and compare it to The Emerald Knight's debut.
An imidiate difference between the two that people can tell is the tone of each film. DareDevil has the appropriate tone needed for it's movie which was a dark, violent tone while Green Lantern was also appropriate but more family friendly.
Hero
Let's start with The Man Without Fear, DareDevil. Ben Affleck was great as Matt Murdock/DareDevil, there is no denying that. He didn't seem so to most because of the writing of Mark Steven Johnson (we'll get to him later) and the character was tragic and dark like he is suppose to be. We felt bad for the character, somewhat. Green Lantern is different, he is light hearted and fun risk taker. Unfortunately, you couldn't believe that Ryan Reynolds was the character due to lack of development in the character and the origin itself. The sad part is, DareDevil had more origin development but shorter run time. Ryan Reynolds was good but the fall here too was also writing.
Love interest
Both actresses were good in their roles although I prefer Blake Lively as an actress as a whole. Jen Garner's Elektra was good the first viewing but after awhile felt more like a plot device than anything else, while Blake Lively's Carol seemed more as a throw in character to have romance in the film. Her character seemed more interesting than Elektra somehow though. Overall even though I like them both in different ways, they both fall flat on their faces.
Villains
Lets start with Green Lantern this time. Parallax and Hector Hammond, I felt both villains were lackluster. That's putting it lightly, I feel the drama in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and it's child actor were more intimidating than the villains in Green Lantern. I know that's harsh but the villains flat out sucked! Kingpin and Bullseye were the complete opposite. It was fun watching Colin Farrell take his charasmatic acting and placing it in Bullseye and Michael Clarke Duncan (R.I.P) as Kingpin was just one thing after another to look forward to. While they had a little bit more development, I thought it was more entertaining to watch the villains in DareDevil rather than being bored watching the villains in Green Lantern.
Directors
I think Johnson looks better with facial hair but couldn't find a good picture. Either way, he looks like a total fruit. Now that, that's out of my system. I admire MSJ's passion for DareDevil and Ghost Rider but both films were bad. Ghost Rider was better but is that really saying much? He would have done a better job with DareDevil had his writing been alot better but overall YOU SUCK! Martin Campbell, like Ryan Reynolds isn't to blame for Green Lantern's failure. It's the lackluster writing. Overall, I like you better.
Final thoughts: Both were bad films but in different ways. DareDevil would have been good had they gotten a different writer and Green Lantern would have been good had they gotten better everything except director. DareDevil is getting the reboot treatment and rumor has it so is Green Lantern. Wouldn't that be the smart thing to do? Just saying. Again, I personally prefer DareDevil because it's easier to watch and it's more entertaining on every level possible. Here is to a better DD movie hopefully turned trilogy, same to Green Lantern.
