It looks like it's going to be a good year for legendary rocker Joan Jett.

"The Runaways" starring Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie and Scout Taylor-Compton as Lita Ford will hit theaters April 9th. Written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, "The Runaways" is a bioptic about Jetts early days with the band.

Now, thanks to Bluewater Productions "Rock And Roll Comics" series she will be the centerpiece of a comic book.

This from MTV Splash....

Bluewater Productions' "Rock 'N' Roll Comics" series features republished material from the original magazine that launched in 1989. The comics offered unauthorized comics-style biographies of their subjects, which included Pink Floyd, Ozzy Osbourne, Bob Dylan and various other musicians and their bands.

"Rock 'N' Roll Comics: Joan Jett and the Runaways" will hit shelves in June 2010 and is written by Spike Steffenhagen and Jay Allen Sanford, with interior art by Joe Paradise and Larry Nadolsky, and a cover by Michal Szyksznian that you can get your first look at here.

Long live rock...

tea & McLovin: bropous is right she was and is worth checking out. She was loud crude and mean Punk on the verge of metal and IMO unlike any other female rocker ever.

Here is one of her newer songs yes, she's still kickin them out.

I met her back in 1982. Let me just say that she looked much rougher up close and in person than she does in photos and on stage, but still... I Love Rock and Roll!!

bropous: I think your getting the URL. If your on youtube there should be an embed image there with it. Copy that.

I caught her show and met her in 97 on Pensacola beach at the Bushwhaker festival.(thats the drink BTW) She was very cool to party with.

Heres one of her big hits form the 80's. She is all attitude.

Actually, Joan Jett was the RHYTHM guitarist for The Runaways. Lita Ford, being a FAR better guitarist, played lead.

I saw Joan jett perform at Maxwells in Hoboken NJ 1995 and have never seen so many lesbians in one room.

They will be lined out the door for this film

bropus - my wife tells me this story about her brother - when they were kids he had a pillow w/ a joan jett picture on it and would sing rod stewarts "if you want my body and you think im sexy" to it, cause he had a crush on her.

hadn't heard anything about Joan Jett in a long time. Glad to see she's still around. I always was a fan back in high school and the early college years. Her music was pretty basic stuff, but it was always FUN, which is something completely lacking in today's overproduced, soulless American Idol-tainted whiny drivel.

And thanks to bropous for the YouTube clips. I really enjoy the music of the late 70's-early 80's, and that's gonna make for some good memories tonight when I have time to watch them. I miss that good solid rock also.

Bropous: one more thing- how many teen guys back in the 80's DIDN'T have a crush on Lita Ford? She was freaking hot! And her music rocked! I just wish MTV played her more back then.

Stumblin - I know! Kids these days... What do you expect from a generation that thinks Miley Cyrus and the little [EXCREMENT]s from 'High Scool Musical' are 'strong musical role models' (LMFAO! Just kidding, guys)? Hey, at least there are bands like Lez Zepplin "keepin' it real" for all those fans of fem rock!

bropus - these days disney and nicelodeon are the top record labels. thats todays music.

Ranger14 - 3/12/2010, 10:52 AM
Bropus@ Yep, those were the days. Groups and artists didn't all sound the same. Everyone had their own unique sound and style. Now you have rap...they all sound the same. You have pop...they all pretty much sound the same. You have alternative rock...they all sound pretty much the same.

Back in the day we were treated to different sounds. Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Styx, Kansas, Supertramp, Bad Company, Triumph, Rush, Chicago, Three Dog Night, Moody Blues, Queen, Journey, Earth, Wind & Fire, Aerosmith, Guess Who, J Geils, Steve Miller, Runaways, Joan Jett, Chaka Khan, Joan Baez, Blondie, Carole King....and the list could go on and on. Did any of them sound the same? Nope.

loganoneil - 3/12/2010, 11:50 AM
Guys - I believe we are talking about FEM rock... but even so, Ranger brings up some great artists like Runaways, Joan Jett, Chaka Khan, Joan Baez, Blondie, Carole King. I'd add:

Heart, Lita Ford, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Pretenders, Fleetwood Mac, B-52's, Melissa Ethridge, the Go-Go's, Marianne Faithful, Natalie Merchant/10,000 Maniacs, Bjork/Sugarcubes, Sinead O'Connor, Sade, N'dea Daveport/The Brand New Heavies, Patti Smith, Bonnie Raitt, TLC, En Vogue, k.d. lang, Annie Lennox/The Eurythmics, Allison Moyet/Yaz, Pat Benatar, Tori Amos, Carly Simon, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin (of course), Tina Turner (of course), Liz Phair...

Ow... my brain hurts!

PLAY DEEP PURPLE "HIGHWAY STAR" AS LOUD AS YOU CAN AND TRY NOT TO SLAP THE PERSON NEXT TO YOU. YOU CANT,BECAUSE THAT SONG WILL GET YOU F'N PUMPED.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 3/12/2010, 1:38 PM
Yep, all great artists from Bropus and loganoneil. Tubes! April Wine! Gotta love it! Edgar Winter, Donny Iris, Billy Idol, Planet P (one of my favorite groups that few have heard of), Jethro Tull, Cream, Free, Creedance Clearwater Revival, Doobie Brothers, Ted Nugent, Nazareth, Night Ranger....lol

Isn't it funny how we could go on and on listing the artists from that era and they are all unique. Try doing that now. The younger ones must be rolling their eyes at us older folk talking about music, but listen up you whippersnappers, we know what we are talking about! ;-) lol

I remember back in high school when MTV first came on. We'd hurry home from school just to watch it for hours. The variety of music was just incredible, and I got introduced to so many bands that our radio stations didn't play. It really broadened my musical tastes.

Ranger: Someone else remembers Planet P! The video for "Why Me?" is among my all-time favorites. You also swerve into an absolutely BRILLIANT point. Those bands you list, and many others, each had a unique sound to them. You heard them, you knew who they were right away. Today, American Idol has ruined music, to where everyone has the same whiny vocal style, and nothing stands out as unique.

Hey, you want obscure stuff? How about "Voices" by Russ Ballard or "Bates Motel" by the Hitmen, two of my other all-time favorites? Or guilty pleasures like "Rock You" by Helix or "Boyz Are Gonna Rock" by the Vinnie Vincent Invasion? Yeah, I know, they sped up the guitar solo. So what? It still ROCKED. Or great rock like "Denim and Leather" by Saxon (which has one of the great guitar riffs of all time, imo).

And if we're bringing up great bands, where's Rush? My favorite band of all-time! Incredible musicianship combined with intelligent lyrics.

It's cool to find others here who remember all the great music of the late 70s and early 80s. We didn't realize that we were witness to a golden age of music. We just knew it was cool and cranked it up.
