What Does Disney's CEO Bob Iger Say About the Marvel Merger?

Walt Disney Company President and CEO Bob Iger made a surprise press conference appearance at Disney's D23 Expo, answering questions about the expo and Disney's plans for the future.

One of the hot questions was Disney's announcement last week that the company had acquired Marvel Entertainment. The news of which has not yet made any appearance at the Expo.

Iger stressed the notion that fans can expect Marvel to continue to operate as it has.

"We're not planning on any 'Disneyfication' of Marvel," said Iger, "...Our intention is to keep Marvel as an entity."

Iger went on to explain that he has met with a great many Marvel talents and that, like the acquisition of Pixar, Disney's primary goal is to stay on the sidelines and let the artists do what they do best.

He did admit that he was excited about the chance for some cross-pollination in the future, though nothing is planned as yet.

Iger reiterated that part of what is so intriguing about Marvel is the deal is designed to play out in the long run, having characters that "transcend gender and age." In the short term, Disney just has to wait until some of the Marvel deals already in place with other studios and theme parks "work their course" and, until then, "there isn't much planning to be done."

so...Do we believe this ?????????????

Does that scare anyone else? Unless its Gargoyles, I don't want a Disney character near Marvel!

@ TheHawk. I don't get the feeling he was talking about that man. I bet that was a reference to the whole Ant Man fiasco. Pixar doing Marvel stuff... like that.

I think Disney putting out marvel animated films would be cool. As long as they dont rate them all "G" or "PG". "PG-13" should be ok. But they can never make an animated Punisher

Hows will this all effect the DEADPOOL movie? Cause I dont want to see a PG13 version ever again.....Origins version was bad enough. They had to sew his mouth shut just to keep it at pg13.

Please dont ruin this movie....if they do im takin out Mickey Mouse

@ merc

deadpool is a fox movie. marvel isn't making it. so it shouldn't effect that at all.

@ bodykount

no, fox owns x-men movie rights. so unfortunately they aren't done messing that up

@ the hawk

i'm pretty sure that means like, marvel characters in a kingdom hearts video game, or something along those lines.

i just think its funny that this is now the 2nd time a disney rep has come forward and said they will NOT mess with what is already there, but i guarantee in about 30 more posts on this article, there will be people still complaining...

@corndogburgular a kingdom hearts wit marvel characters would be sweet. but i doubt anyone here would agree, seeing that marvel is more violent than disney...on second thought i'll disagree with the combination

@ droopy

its like me and a few others have said a million times, the only thing disney will more than likely do is make NEW stuff for kids with marvel characters. (video games, maybe cartoons, and newer kiddie comics. which is something marvel already does anyway.) kingdom hearts is not a violent video game, so throwing some marvel characters in it, shouldnt
hurt anything.

@droopy and corndog - why is marvel too violent? they put final fantasy in there and that has flying firebreathing dragons and anime drama/sex innuendo and swear words. plus its third party not to mention. kindgdom hearts with marvel characters would kick arse

i'm excited about this. maybe one day i can take my kids to the Marvel Theme Park at Disney World Orlando. :D

@ Fartman: I live in Orlando FL and the talks of a Marvel/Disney theme park is in the works, Disney is rumored to be working something out with Universal Islands of Adventure cause they don't want Disney character theme rides in their park. If Universal changes the theme of their Marvel rides to reflect the movies, then it wouldn't be a problem to keep them, except the Hulk ride. Disney is more than willing to purchase those rights from Universal, they are just waiting for Universal to make a price. This is info I got from the local news reports.

@burgler and fartman, i guess you two are right. i really shouldn't say anything, i mean i haven't played final fantasy, any marvel games...I can't even beat the dam dog in the first kingdom hearts lol so i wouldn't know. but mixing in the 2 would be sweet

YES! Not only that, but also the part that says, "Iger reiterated that part of what is so intriguing about Marvel is the deal is designed to play out in the long run, having characters that "transcend gender and age." Transcend gender and age?!?!? There it is! That's the corporate philosophy trickling into the product. But noooooo! Disney won't touch Marvel, just finance and distribute, huh? Hmmm...

THAT's "DISNEYFICATION", you (fill-in explitive here)!!!
Arrggghhhh! All the soothsayers telling me to calm down, and that this will be good for Marvel. They'll just be bank-rolled...YEAH, RIGHT! I told you!

That last part wasn't directed at you, Hawk. I'm going to die young from high blood pressure...I know it.
