Lead Actor Ray Stevenson to Direct Punisher 3?

Lead Actor Ray Stevenson to Direct Punisher 3?

We'll have to wait and see if the box office numbers justify this rumor, but Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander is pushing to have lead actor Ray Stevenson helm the sequel.

SuperheroFlix.com spoke to the controversial director and got this comment...

"In no short order, she explained that she wasn't intent on coming back for a sequel, and if a third film does happens, she won't be attached. Then she told us that she wants Ray Stevenson, the man that plays Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone, to come back and direct a third film. She says that he is very open to it, and that is the direction she is pushing the franchise. She doesn't believe that anybody else but him will be able to make a film that is on par with what is coming to theaters this Friday."

Punisher: War Zone opens December 5th, 2008.

I might be worried if the new Punisher actually looked good. Hopefully it is though. Jigsaw looks like he's gonna be good.

Yup i also heard its this friday. So looking forward to it. The actions scenes look good like they should. And thank goodness that they realized that the punisher is a grity intense charactor (ha didn't use the word dark)
and i do hope punisher goes all the way past sequel statis. Oh yeah and Fantastic Four should be reboted as well. (just incase anyone with authority reads this)

Ya, I hate how much they're using the word "dark" in Hollywood anymore. After Batman everything all of a sudden has to be dark to be cool.

First off, dark is necessary when we talk about dark characters. It's what fits them. Punisher, Batman, GhostRider and Daredevil are all dark superheroes and they're movies should represent them accurately or else don't bother.

And as for Fantastic Four is concerned, the movies couldn't have been any better even though they sucked. They sucked cause the characters sucked. They stayed true to them and it still failed because they suck. They had good scripts, great actors, amazing special effects and sucked louder than any commercial vaccum you can buy. They, as superheroes, just flat out suck. They don't have any "challenges" that are unique to them as characters like the X-men or Spider-man or or Ironman... other than paying they're electricity bill. They have a cool concept as a team but they don't amount to anything in particular. Any of they're so called "challenges" could be handled by any other superhero with even more gusto! They serve no purpose. And THAT is the main reason why i KNOW that a Captain Marvel: Shazam movie will suck. There's just nothing special about him and there's nothing that only he could possibly overcome as a challenge. Even though they do have their own slew of fans, these characters are not BOX OFFICE MATERIAL. You can make all the PG-13 reboots you want, there will never be enough of a mass lining up to see it so they'd make enough money to even consider calling it a hit.

It's unfortunate but as for Punisher goes, to us fans he's a comic book childhood hero but to the masses, he's just an action movie star. So yes, it will be a good action film but won't have much more success then Jane's version. And if these movies are just made to be cool action flicks than i don't think they do the character justice and i really don't think that they deserve a third one. I think what Punisher needs is a cool HBO R rated animated series like Spawn. That would really do him justice.

Punisher 3? So they are treating War Zone as a sequel to Thomas Jane's girl-box Punisher?

I thought this was a reboot of sorts.

You want a non/girly Punisher movie that actually kicks ass? Go rent RAMBO. For some reason, i really don't see WARZONE being in the top three for more than 2 weeks depending on what comes out in the following weeks... Sorry to be the rain on your parade guys. I hope it kicks ass because i hate buying DVD's just to be let down but i'm not going to see this one on the big screen.

Way to early to be talking about a P3. There isn't even much hype about this one!!! So Why?

Have to agree with Shaman, to most people he is just a rock em sock em action flick type of guy who isn't going to get the cred he deserves in a movie setting. Also, the HBO anmated series in the tone of the Spawn series would be AWESOME!!!!! It would definitely do him justice, done right, with a straight adaptation, directly from comic book page, to HBO. Even though I don't subscribe to HBO (or any movie channel for that matter...On Demand, Hello!) It is a great idea. Also in agreeance, this isn't going to be a blockbuster movie, it just isn't. The ONLY reason they would do a sequel is if this sells to the masses like crazy. I don't think it's going to do bad, but it's not going to be the December to Remember type movie.

Thomas Jane is and awesome actor...and was an awesome punisher. Ray cant act if his life was depended on it.

Have you seen Rome? I have seasons 1 & 2.... awesome show. He isnt much of serious actor..nor taken seriously on that show. His acting profile is nearly crap.

He only has potential for this movie because he looks like the MAX VERSION of the MARVEL KNIGHT comics punisher. Which much older....darker...and sadder.

People critic...Thomas Jane being a bad punisher. Honestly, he left because he tought they were messing it up..rather then improving.

I just hope this movie does well, and stevenson proves me wrong. If not...I'll be back to say I told yall so.

SHAZAM WILL SUCK. Because it will be a joke...having BLACK ADAM played by the rock. If they wanted to do well with that...."dont hire director like "13 going on 30" to direct something that should be taken a bit more seriously.

Well, because of the newly provided "ultra violent" trailer for Punisher:Warzone, which i can't see at work, and by seeing all those comments of people dehidrated by all the drool produced... i just might go see it... once. It's still not gonna attract masses to it like the ever so popular Rambo. People in general (comic book fans aside) don't connect with the punisher character. And in my opinion, TOM JANE is undesputed as the best punisher no matter what Stevenson does. And if Stevenson directs the 3rd one, it's gonna be BLADE TRINITY all over again.

Hopefully, with they're 8th place rank, they won't even conceive of a third!

Punisher 3, straight to DVD? More likely, straight to the garbage dump. Why Marvel refuses to get behind this franchise is beyond me.
