GLASS Early Tracking Suggests Monumental $70M-$75M Opening Over The MLK Holiday Weekend

It may have taken nearly two decades, but we're now less than a month away from seeing M. Night Shyamalan's final chapter in his Unbreakable trilogy and it looks like it's going to have a massive launch.

Variety is reporting that early tracking for M. Night Shyamalan's Glass is suggesting a monumental domestic bow in the $70 million to $75 million range over the four-day Martin Luther King holiday weekend, which would be a franchise-best debut and the second-best launch ever for a film over the MLK holiday weekend.

Forbes also speculates that the sequel's "event film" status combined with positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth could ultimately result in an even bigger opening weekend as Shyamalan completes his Unbreakable/Split trilogy.

Glass carried an estimated $20 million production budget (without P&A), so these early tracking numbers are incredibly promising. For comparison's sake, the Bruce Willis/Samuel L. Jackson-led Unbreakable opened to $30.3 million back in November 2000, before grossing over $248.1 million worldwide ($95M domestic; $153.1M foreign), while the James McAvoy-fronted Split opened with $40 million in January 2017, before grossing over $278.4 million worldwide ($138.2M domestic; $140.1M foreign).

M. Night Shyamalan brings together the narratives of two of his standout originals—2000’s Unbreakable, from Touchstone, and 2016’s Split, from Universal—in one explosive, all-new comic-book thriller: Glass.

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

Glass features:

Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price/Mr. Glass
Bruce Willis as David Dunn
James McAvoy as Kevin Wendell Crumb/The Horde
Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke
Sarah Paulson as Dr. Ellie Staple
Spencer Treat Clark as Joseph Dunn
