Ron Howard Has Reportedly Reshot Almost All Of SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY

Disney and Lucasfilm chose Ron Howard as the new director of Solo: A Star Wars Story after becoming dissatisfied with Phil Lord and Chris Miller and it seems we'll see little to none of their work...

Like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, things have not been running smoothly behind the scenes of Solo. Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired after Disney and Lucasfilm became dissatisfied with their improvisational style and it took no time at all for Kathleen Kennedy to hire friend Ron Howard.

While we know he's shot at least half of the movie and taken charge of pretty extensive reshoots, it's never been revealed quite how much work he's done on the movie. Well, in the video below, it's said that Howard has reshot "nearly all" of the spinoff which has led to the budget almost doubling. That means we can probably forget about seeing any of Lord and Miller's work in the final cut next year.

This was probably to be expected (he's even recast major roles) and it's interesting that Lord and Miller's Han Solo has now become Ron Howard's, something we never even considered could happen. Are you disappointed about these big changes or was it arguably the right move on Lucasfilm's part?

@TheUnworthyThor - The irony being that apparently, according to Taika Waititi, most of Thor: Ragnarok is improvised.

Is there any star wars story that explains where the first lightsaber came from?

Damn, if this movie was originally budgeted at $200 million, and almost all was reshot, this could be the most expensive movie ever made.
Could be like $300 million.

@Elayem - pirates is still 500M

@Deonox - Are you including marketing? For example, BvS was $250 million but with marketing was $400 million.

No movie has been over $275 million without marketing I believe.

@Deonox - Just looked it up and Pirates 4 cost $380 million. Goddamn that might still hold the title, that is absurdly high.

@Elayem - Wow, the whole LoTR trilogy cost $297 million. Even with inflation...

@Fogs - Working from smaller budgets is counterintuitively almost always better.

@Deonox - No problem. Infinity War and Avengers 4 might be the movies to surpass Pirates’ budget. Will be crazy to see.

@Deonox - The Infinity War trailer? I don't think it's attached, Ragnarok is already playing in Europe and there was no trailer attached.

Phil And Chris might have given us something a little different and unique. Howard will probably deliver a crowd pleaser so at least from a business perspective, it was probably the right call to reshoot the entire thing. The two styles most likely didn't mesh well together.

@BeyondtheFuture - Honestly the worst thing you can do in star wars is break canon. Giving us an unfaithful adaptation of Han in a good movie might be worse than a faithful han in a mediocre movie

@Deonox - I agree. One thing Disney has maintain is 100% canon over all their media (comics, shows, films, games etc). Personally (outside inconsistencies in Shaak Tis death) I haven't noticed any flaws in even the smallest detail in canon.
Additionally, many of the media outside the films (books, comics etc) are being sold simply because they are canon.
I suspect the orginal directors were wanting to divert away from canon a lot (both in character actions and story plot), which lead to their firing.

@StormXmen123 - People on this site complain about Marvel not following canon all the time.
Nerdman3000
Nerdman3000 - 10/30/2017, 6:21 PM
@StormXmen123 - Agreed. I think I've only ever noticed one inconsistency in the entire new canon, and that is when Ben Solo/Kylo Ren was conceived oddly enough. According to Aftermath, he was conceived the night of Endor right after the battle, whereas according to Star Wars: Bloodline, he was conceived a while after on the Millenium Falcon when Han and Leia were alone on a mission.

Other than that, everything is consistent.

If it makes me happy that they actually made a Han Solo movies that doesn't star Han Solo as Han Solo, then I don't care what went on behind the scenes.

Actually all's you really needed to do was pay attention to how much time it took for Howard to complete his principle photography (& he was providing us PLENTY of updates on twitter) to realize this would be the case. He HAD to have reshoot almost the whole thing over.

and I don't think this was ever expected to reach the same level of box office as the proper trilogy movies would, but they're REALLY up against the wall now to hope to wind up turning a profit on this thing, given all the coin flying out the door.
