Deadline confirms that 20th Century Studios (now part of Disney) is finally moving forward with a big screen adaptation of Mark Millar and Goran Parlov's Starlight.

Shortly after the comic was released in 2013, we learned that Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg was attached to write and produce the movie; thankfully, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story scribe Gary Whitta was later tapped to pen the screenplay.

Now, Attack the Block and The Kid Who Would Be King's Joe Cornish has been chosen to write and direct the project. Kinberg will still produce alongside Audrey Chon through his Genre Films banner, while Nira Park (a frequent collaborator of Cornish and Edgar Wright's) is also producing.

Cornish worked with Wright on his version of Ant-Man for Marvel Studios.

in Starlight, astronaut Duke McQueen finds himself transported to an alien world where he saves the planet before returning to Earth...where no one believes his story. 40 years later, his wife has died, and his kids have pretty much forgotten about their dad; it's then a young alien from that planet arrives at Duke's home and recruits him, as an old man, for one final mission to save her home.

This is a project with plenty of potential, which should come together nicely over the next few years. There are lots of great older actors out there who would be a good fit for Starlight

A lot of Mark Millar properties being adapted nowadays, haven't heard of this one before, seems interesting.

@Urubrodi - Its because of competition. Netflix bought all the film rights to Millar World except for Kingsmen, Wanted, and Kick-ass because Fox still holds those. With Starlight, Fox is just fast tracking this project so it doesn't go to Netflix.

Streaming Wars are heating up! Millar has a lot of good comics too so i'm not surprised.

@mastakilla39 - Fox (technically Disney) still has Wanted, huh? I loved the original movie, as for the comic, I liked its premise but not really the execution of it (as Millar's known for).

I would reboot it as an animated series closer to the comic. It could be kind of like Breaking Bad with supervillains, where Wesley is a normal guy when he joins The Fraternity but his exposure to The Fraternity's world twists his morals and sees him become one of the most ruthless villains in the world. Something along those lines.

It’s a fun read. The art is great and the character work is really good.

I like Clooney for it, if you could get him

The only two actors I would choose are Kurt Russell or Jeff Bridges. They'll probably pick Paul Rudd though.🙄

Kurt Russell or Mel Gibson would be ideal choices. Both still "feel" believable in action roles and can probably build a little muscle to pull off the costume.

Never read the book, but it's always been on my reading waitlist. Cool premise

I know nothing about him except what I got here. He's probably a little young but he looks a little like Patrick Warburton to me.

Not familiar with the book but I find the summary interesting. Reminds me of when I would return home once every few years. Nobody could really understand the overseas deployments and adventures when I would discuss it. Could never really go home.

This one was a great wholesome story, pretty uncommon for Millar. I hope they do it justice.
