In August, the Cameron/Pace Group announced CPG China, a joint venture with the state-owned Tianjin North Film Group and Tianjin Hi-Tech Holding Group to provide camera systems and other 3D production services in the northern port city of Tianjin.

James Cameron intends to shoot Avatar sequels mostly in Los Angeles, Wellington, New Zealand but he also said the need to shoot some scenes in China, "Within five years, China could easily be as big a gross-revenue market for film as North America, and there are very specific economic incentives for having both Chinese content and Chinese co-production. We are already funded on Avatar 2 and 3, but if we qualify as a co-production, there might be some incentives in the percentage of revenue we can take out of China. We are running the numbers to see if that makes sense"

When asked whether any chinese actors will be used, the director said "For Avatar, we can certainly can use Chinese actors as performance capture actors because any accent issues will hide within the Na’vi accent. So we can have Chinese Na’vi; [and in the live-action sequences] we can also have Chinese actors who speak English in the film. We are projecting a future in Avatar, and if you project that future out, it is logical that there would be a number of Chinese amongst the contingent on Pandora.”

Although the release date is yet to be confirmed, the first sequel is expected to hit in late 2013 or early 2014.

I think you need to change your expected release date from late 2013 or early 2014. I'm pretty sure Cameron said it wouldn't come out for a few years, especially since he is still writing the sequels (from what I last heard).

This actually makes loads of sense...

The Na'vi ARE aliens that means they also come from an entire planet. Humans from different places on this planet look different now don't they?
Mostly black actors were used for the Na'vi in the last movie.. It makes perfect sense that they cast a a different race for Na'vi from a different side of Pandora...

Just sayin'

patriautism@

thats always been my argument for a DBZ movie. you don't have to cast all Asians. they're not from japan. just as humans on earth all have different appearances so can a fictional alien species.

however, i think this might be a slippery slope. so where were we on Pandora in the first movie? the Na'vi equivalent of Africa? early America? so then what? we go east and they just happen to have slanted eyes just like earth? next are we going to go to the Russian equivalent where everyone is drinking vodka and wearing furry hats? then we go southwest where they all live in step pyramids and do ritualistic na'vi sacrifices? just don't get me started on the Islamic na'vi parallel...

lol.

@OdinsBeard HA! Good point. It is a lazy way of doing things, that is no lie. I can actually see his reasoning behind it, though.. I also liked Avatar strangley enough, it isn't the greatest movie ever made or anything, but it's a pretty good movie. I am interested in seeing a more feudal Japan type of Na'vi or even a medieval type of Na'vi..

It really doesn't matter what "races" he puts in Avatar 2, he basically just reaffirmed he's all about the monetary aspect (like he doesn't have enough), and the easily-amused will continue to buy tickets, and there's A LOT of easily-amused Earthlings to buy his craptastic sequels. What a tool.

Sounds cool. Sadly but awesomely, this will be Cameron's closest to Aquaman. : (

patriautism@ ah so you think we'll a (slightly) more advanced na'vi tribe in the new ones? or do you think the whole planet is native-american-like? (sorry can't think of a better term. lol)

i could see a tribe that has lost touch with the planet and no longer feel any connection to that god they have. but i just figured if we're advanced enough to land on their planet we've probably dealt with their most civilized and advanced culture.

but hey Cameron could make up anything he wanted so what do i know.
