GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS Post-Credits Scene Details - Major Spoilers Ahead

As you've no doubt heard by now, Godzilla: King of the Monsters does indeed feature a post-credits scene, and it seemingly sets-up the future of the franchise in a very interesting way. Spoilers follow...

The post-credits scene attached to Godzilla: King of the Monsters does lay the groundwork for the continuation of the franchise, but not in the way you were probably expecting.

We do get some teases of Big G's impending showdown with King Kong in the actual credits, as newspaper clippings reference some intriguing Titan activity on Skull Island. However, the stinger itself actually hints at the possible return of King Ghidorah, who is killed by Godzilla at the end of the movie.

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS Review - There's Fun To Be Had When Titans Clash, But The Rest Falls Flat

During their first battle, Godzilla manages to sever one of Ghidorah's heads, and while it regenerates, that dragon-like bonce shows up again in the post-credits sequence when it's sought out by the film's human antagonist, Ian Jonah (Charles Dance). It's not made clear what Jonah intends to do with the head, but it's possible that he intends to use Ghidorah's multipurpose Titan DNA to create a new life-form, or possibly even resurrect the extraterrestrial beast himself.

Could we even see a variation on Mecha-King Ghidorah from the Heisei-era Toho films, perhaps? We're probably going to have to wait a while to find out, because Dance has already confirmed that he won't be returning for Godzilla Vs. Kong.

Tell us, have you been to see KOTM yet? If so, what did you think? Were you a fan of the post-credits scene? Sound off below.

@VandalSavage - you failed to mention that audience reactions are at 90%. It's an incredibly fun movie. Kinda dumb, but incredibly fun.

The people behind Godzilla vs Kong are moving toward sensationalized marketing to sell the film which to me seems like something we have seen before. King of Monsters looks to be Man of Steel all over again...and audience friendly departure from "professional" critic expectations. Audiences appear to have liked it, but the franchise seems poised to lose the audience in the follow up by trying to sell a convoluted confrontation for no reason.

Probably Mecha Ghidorah

So [frick]ing pleased with how King of the Monsters turned out.

Hope they do one more film to conclude the Trilogy with Godzilla Vs Destroyah.

The movie wasn't -terrible-.

But I did tell the movie to [frick] off 4 different times. The movie wasn't very good to be honest. Sure, monsters fighting were okay, but again, they aren't the main focus, the humans are. And the humans, other than Ken Wantanabe, SUCK SO BAD.

MechaGodzilla and MechaGhidorah would be good antagonists for the threequel or fourquel considering there are no other kaiju in Godzilla vs Kong.

So Kong gets captured, is experimented on with Ghidorah's DNA which gives him regenerative abilities, among others possibly, (which explains how he could possibly stand a chance at going toe-to-toe with Godzilla). Kong escapes, or is released, and a fight ensues. Bigger threat emerges, Kong and Godzilla team up, fist bump and kick new baddies ass.

Sounds fun. Looking forward to Godzilla this weekend, I'm hoping critics are wrong (they usually are) and the audience are right.

@gulducati - In my opinion the vocals are the only thing keeping it from being a good cover. I like System of A Down and all, but I really feel like Serj Tankian was a bad choice for this song.

Saw Godzilla last night and the critics got it right 41 % at Rotten Tomatoes.

Godzilla sucked the first one was better. Just like the first one don't see monster's that much except for flashes until the final battle.

BUT the final battle is dark and murky.

2 stars out of 5 stars
