GODZILLA MINUS ONE Final Trailer Roars Online As Toho Movie Hits Japanese Theaters

Toho's latest Godzilla movie, Minus One, stomps into Japanese theaters today, and we have a brand-new trailer featuring plenty of action-packed new footage of Big G on the rampage...

We've been waiting for this ever since the first teaser, and to celebrate Godzilla Day (happy 69th birthday big fella), Toho has finally released a brand-new trailer for Godzilla Minus One.

The movie roars into Japanese theaters today, and tickets are now on sale for its U.S. release on December 1 (we also have a new poster with the purchase links).

The trailer features plenty of new footage of the King of the Monsters on the rampage, as the legendary kaiju destroys everything in his path. Then, right at the end, we get a shot of Godzilla's dorsal plates glowing blue and extending (a new feature!) as he prepares to unleash an atomic blast.

No other kaiju appear in the teaser, though we have it on good authority that at least one other monster will show up in the movie (click here as long as you're okay with potential spoilers).

The run-time for Minus One was recently revealed, and the movie is set to clock in at 125 minutes, (2 hours and 5 minutes), tying it with Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) as the longest Toho Godzilla film. This also makes it the third longest in the entire franchise (Hollywood and Polygon productions included) after Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2 hours and 12 minutes) and 1998's Godzilla (2 hours and 19 minutes).

This will be Toho's first Godzilla movie since 2016's Shin Godzilla. Takashi Yamazaki - the filmmaker who worked on visual effects for Shin Godzilla - will direct the film.

Yamazaki recently outlined his original pitch for the project, while explaining that unusual title.

"Postwar Japan has lost everything. The film depicts an existence that gives unprecedented despair. The title Godzilla Minus One was created with this in mind. In order to depict this, the staff and I have worked together to create a setting where Godzilla looks as if "fear" itself is walking toward us, and where despair is piled on top of despair. I think this is the culmination of all the films I have made to date, and one that deserves to be "experienced" rather than "watched" in the theater. I hope you will experience the most terrifying Godzilla in the best possible environment."

Specific plot details are also still under wraps, but a (very) brief synopsis tells us that Godzilla: Minus One "sees an already devastated postwar Japan facing a new threat in the form of Godzilla."

The movie is set to debut in the U.K. and Ireland on December 15.

@dragon316 - every mediocre Godzilla movie is still a thousand times better than any of the Legendary/WB movies lol

@bobevanz - I like but don't love the Legendary series. Unfortunately, it has become "MARVELized" with the neon-glow sci-fi weapons and anti-gravity ships and of course; G and Kong essentially becoming the Avengers of the kaiju world.... 🫤

@bobevanz - you’re taking a dump on the legendary movies but are planning to watch 1998 to celebrate Godzilla day? That isn’t even Godzilla. That movie was the worst abomination I’ve seen for Godzilla. As it’s own separate thing it was just ok.

Will toho get back to Godzilla movies being a regular thing again

Showa, Hesei and Millenium had movies out on almost a yearly basis

@dracula - I think it's 50/50 in this case I'm sure Toho still wants to experiment Godzilla with various directors but on the other hand depending on how successful Minus 1 is could see Toho sticking with Takashi Yamazaki and building a universe around this film. The only limitation Toho has is that they can't release a Godzilla film in the same year as Legendary so I could see another film coming out in 2025 or 2026

@Godzilla2000Zer - Well if they are building a universe, could probably release non Godzilla focused movies those years

@dracula - I'd assume so maybe Mothra and Rodan and probably eventually Kong once the 1933 film enters public domain in 2029.

@grif- Cannot guarantee it but, from what I understand, it will be Japanese language with English subtitles. (Some folks have an issue with that but I personally do not.) 🤓

I find the Legendary Godzilla series entertaining but (similar to a reliable fast-food joint) easily forgotten about until the next time the urge hits me. But THIS looks so damn impressive that I am really, really, really excited about seeing it! 🤓

Very good trailer, the charge up scene at the end of how each of Godzilla's fins activated to build up the atomic breath was hype worthy.
