In the opening sequence of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV+, John Goodman's character Bill Randa appears to be trying to get things going in a big manner by dodging a gigantic spider kaiju.

But it seems that in order for it to have Randa for lunch, the huge spider will have to battle a giant crab. Watch the three-minute action scene that opens the episode by CLICKING HERE.

Do you believe the enormous spider is the show's interpretation of Kumonga, the iconic Godzilla kaiju that debuted in Son of Godzilla in 1967? In the same way, do you believe the crab to be Ganimes, a legendary Toho kaiju that debuted in Space Amoeba in 1970?

Sadly, no as EW has confirmed that the giant spider is named Mother Longlegs and the giant crab is named Mantleclaw. Still, it's fun to think that the two Monarch kaiju were inspired by their classic predecessors.  The Mother Longlegs actually appeared in 2017's Kong: Skull Island.

Apple TV+'s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will drop its first two episodes on November 17 before switching to a weekly-release format, with the show's first season concluding on January 12 after a 10-episode run.

You can check out the show's opening credits below.

Legendary comic book writer Matt Fraction, who is also one of the show's co-executive producers, discussed the show's position in the MonsterVerse canon in an interview with EW.

"The world of Godzilla: King of the Monsters is so profoundly different from the world of Godzilla 2014. Monarch goes from being the Men in Black to the helpers everyone looks for when that siren goes off. It's a cool place to tell a story."

Fraction went on to warn kaiju fans that they shouldn't expect to see giant kaiju battles every week.

"What we set out to do was to make a show set in the MonsterVerse that wasn't focused on the monsters. We felt we couldn't compete with the feature films and we shouldn't try. To build a television series, you have to create a cast of characters, a set of people that you want to follow week to week, and, if we're lucky, multiple seasons. This is a show about people who have woken up and live in a world where monsters are real."

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Official Synopsis: Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch.

Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

Hailing from Legendary Television, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is co-developed and executive produced by Chris Black and Matt Fraction. Matt Shakman directs the first two episodes and serves as executive producer alongside Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, Andy Goddard, Brad Van Arragon, and Andrew Colville. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character. Toho licensed the rights to Legendary for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters as a natural byproduct of their long-term relationship with the film franchise.

Starring Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett and Elisa Lasowski, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters' premieres globally with the first two episodes on Friday, November 17 on Apple TV+, followed by one episode every Friday through January 12.

I hoped they bring back some terrifying force of nature grounded elements like gareth edwards did in 2014. these recent films are just too silly for my liking

@Gabimaru - I agree the first Godzilla was great but after that, they feature too many jokes and annoying characters.

The only scenes that are good involve the monsters.

@Gabimaru - All the films after 2014 have reached Emmerich/ Bay level bad. Too dumbed down to enjoy.

"We felt we couldn't compete with the feature films"

Well, by doing a character-driven story that happens to feature monsters you're doing exactly that. Guess difference is, this actually looks compelling.

Anyway, Matt Fraction is on board with this? Had no idea, but it only gets me more excited

Eeeehhh, I dunno man. I want to be excited for this, I really do, but the thing that keeps nagging me is that the human stories are the least interesting parts of the movies. Like in Godzilla vs King Kong, that whole side story about Millie Bobbie Brown and the kid from Deadpool 2 doing...stuff. They could have cut every one of those scenes and the movie wouldn't have lost anything. I feel like the movies are a sandwich, and now Apple is like "oh you liked that sandwich, well here's a loaf of bread." Like bruh, that's not the yummy part of the sandwich.

Has anyone who has ever seen any Godzilla movie ever said they wanted more human stories? Or that they watched it cause they couldn't get enough of some human's story and how they feel about their situation? This article just lost me as a viewer. I'll wait for word-of-mouth after the season is over in a couple months. I am assuming somewhat action heavy 2 episodes and then like 7 more of human boring stuff and time wasting on forced drama with more action in 5th episode and then the big finale to set-up a cliffhanger.
