Brie Larson Joins KONG: SKULL ISLAND; MAN OF STEEL's Russell Crowe Eyed For Role

Kong: Skull Island was recently dealt a serious blow when Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons left. However, Brie Larson (Short Term 12, Trainwreck) has now joined the cast, while Russell Crowe is being eyed.

Deadline reports that Brie Larson is in talks for the lead female role in Legendary Pictures' Kong: Skull Island. She joins the already confirmed Tom Hiddleston, the only actor not to bail on the project after Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons decided it wasn't for them due to reported scheduling conflicts (we've heard that before). Regardless, the site adds that Russell Crowe is being eyed to replace one of them, so it looks set to still have a very impressive ensemble. Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein (though Tony Gilroy is apparently working on a new draft right now), and it's set to be released on March 10th, 2017.

@fettastic Well, it's not like they were previously NOT going to have King Kong in the movie...they just put Kong in the title for dumb audiences who wouldn't be able to make the connection between King Kong and Skull Island.

I actually prefer "Skull Island" instead of "King Kong: Skull Island". All these titles of "Franchise name: generic subtitle" is getting a little played.

I'm very surprised people DON'T want another King Kong movie. It's been a decade since the last one, it's not like there's any fatigue or anything. Plus the cast they're putting together is ace! As long as it doesn't follow the Godzilla reboot tropes I'm 100% down.

If you knew the character from the book she's probably up for playing you would think that bloke she has serves her perfectly.

I'm definately looking forward to this flick! The cast seems to be great and I REALLY loved Kings of Summer. Even if I didn't like the story (which I did) visually it looked fantastic and made great use of Ohio's natural beauty.

I'm surprised I haven't heard of Brie Larson before. She's quite the little hottie, even for a blonde. Russell Crowe is a step in the right direction; I'm feeling a surge of confidence restored in this.

Wouldn't Russell Crowe be a much bigger get than the loss of Keaton and Simmons? (I mean namewise not talent)

..keaton, who cares..he hasn't had a hit since batman then finally birdman so he thinks he can pick his scripts..whatever..crowe as much the same..not a hit since gladiator or Cinderella man..the script must really suck if he's wiling to come onboard

I think this movie is a great idea. If done well this could be an interesting contribution to the Kong mythos. I am really looking forward to it. I agree with @SauronsBANE they should have stuck with Skull Island instead of Kong Skull Island. Sounds a little too obvious, after all this is going to be an origin story of sorts so its only fitting that you try and be more conspicuous.
