'Planet of the Apes' Reboot idea still Lingering in Hollywood!

'Planet of the Apes' Reboot idea still Lingering in Hollywood!

I know, I know. But hey at least this time around you will not see Tim Burton or Marky Mark near the set.

Now before anyone gets upset at this article:

There you go.

This from MTV catching up with special effects master Aaron Sims at the premiere for Clash of the Titans:

A few quotes:

"They're just starting. There was another director," Sims said, clearly debating whether to say more and how much would be proper to reveal. "It's in the process right now."

So there is no director yet? "No--" "We're just starting on that project, it's just coming around."

Will the reboot resemble anything from Tim Burton's version? "No, it's not going to be Tim," he said with a knowing grin. So what stage is Sims at now?

"Looking at a lot of chimpanzees and apes," he replied.

If they somehow bring a fresh new idea into this already exhausted franchise I would be happy to see it. After watching the original movies you would think the topics to be explored are already covered.

I have no idea about what direction this reboot should go in but the idea they are exploring is a chimp named Ceasar which is the first of a what will become a long line to come of intelligent chimps that will soon take over the world and turn all humans into blubbering wastes of flesh that have no meaning other then to occasionally say "Get your hands off me You Damn Dirty Ape"!!! Yes, that was Epic.

This concept -- called "Caesar: Rise of the Apes" -- actually sounds promising. Rather than go back and relaunch from the original, they've taken elements of the fourth film, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, and used that as a starting point, creating a scenario in which a genetically enhanced ape will ultimately lead the simian revolution against humanity. Everything I've heard about this one so far sounds VERY cool.

starsapphire@ no.

ok - i understand a clash of the titans re-make. updated technology allows for better visual effects and more awesome "clashing"

but i never thought of Planet of the Apes as a visual spectacle of any kind. i always thought it was more cerebral and philosophical. and because of that the original Charlton Heston version still stands. the ape make-up worked fine back then so im not really sure what new ground you'd be breaking with a remake. especially since all that new ground was already broken and no one cared. there's a lot better movies out there to re-make if that's what you're looking for.

fake apes = boring

Seriously, why? This movie has been remade once, and not very well. It's not like I hear people clamoring for another remake of the first film, or remaking any of the sequels, or even for a new story based on the basic concept. Hopefully, nothing comes of this.

NO reboot was needed for Clash of the Titans either. So you can do fancier effects on it now- so what? Fancy effects are no substitute for good story and quality acting.
