Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, was profiled in the UK Telegraph today while promoting his latest movie, A Fantastic Fear of Everything. When the actor was quizzed about the villainous character played by Benedict Cumberbatch, he first offers up a few vague details, before completely dismissing claims that he will be playing classic Trek villain Khan as "myth"..

Pegg is full of praise for Cumberbatch’s baddy, whom he describes [as] “not just another disgruntled alien. It’s a really interesting… sort of… thing,” he squirms. “Obviously I can’t talk about it.” While not wanting to get specific, Pegg did flatly deny reports and rumors that Cumberbatch is playing Khan…

“It’s not Khan,” replies Pegg, annoyed. “That’s a myth. Everyone’s saying it is, but it’s not.”

Although nobody officially involved with the Star Trek sequel has ever confirmed that the character Cumberbatch is playing is Khan, it was so widely reported by various industry insiders and reputable net journos that most of us just assumed it was a given. Pegg seems rather adamant that it is not, but could he just be continuing a ruse began by Abrams back when this was first reported? Even after several different sources claimed that it would be Khan giving the crew of The Enterprise headaches, the director stuck to his guns. One thing is certain, Pegg is no fan of spoilers or early plot leaks, nor by the sounds of it the fans that show an interest in them, claiming “It masquerades as interest in the movie but really it’s just nosiness and impatience. You just want to say, ‘Oh f— off! Wait for the film!’”.

What do you guys think? Is this just more misdirection of is Pegg getting a bit fed up because there really is no Khan in the movie? Sound off below.
