With the
Star Wars talk and rumors starting to go from a simmer to a rolling boil- I thought it would be a good time to address one of the more recent rumors regarding the stand-alone spin off movies. We are hearing that the 3
rd spinoff flick is about The
X-Wing Fighter Pilot group, more specifically
Luke Skywalker and will be called
Red Five. Now the source for this tidbit is where this gets quite interesting. At a recent
Hasbro marketing trade event in Germany, the company was discussing upcoming Star Wars toys and claimed the first two spin-offs are those long rumored
Han Solo and
Boba Fett origin stories, and the 3
rd was about the X-Wing Pilots, which of course
Luke was part of and would be called
Red Five. You can take that for what its worth, but our pal
Germain Lussier over at
SlashFilm is reporting that
Star Wars news sites such as
Jedi News and
Making Star Wars were asked to take the report down. In the past, this has been a good indication of the validity of report.
For those unaware,
Red Five was the call sign that Luke was given in
Star Wars Episode 1: A New Hope by the Rebel Alliance. He was the 5th member of that squadron. I am a sucker for any origin story, but a legit
Luke Skywalker origin movie is something I would love to see. Maybe the film will focus on the history of the
Red Five call sign, documenting the many pilots who have used it over the years? Maybe none of this is right? What do you think?
