Disney Will Likely Claim $50 Million Insurance Due To Carrie Fisher Missing Major Role In STAR WARS EPISODE IX
Disney took out an insurance policy on Carrie Fisher in case she was unable to fulfil her contractual obligations to the Star Wars Saga as the plan was for her to have a huge role in Episode IX...
Carrie Fisher's sudden death marked one of the saddest moments in 2016, but things have taken an unexpected twist as The Insurance Insider reveals that Disney will be cashing in a $50 million insurance policy on the actress. They took that out at Lloyd's of London in the event that the actress was for some reason unable to fulfil her contractual obligations to the new Star Wars Saga. The studio presumably did the same for all of the franchise's older cast members upon their respective returns.
While Fisher completed work on Star Wars Episode VIII, the site reports that she was, "slated to have a major role in Episode IX." That explains why the studio will be looking to cash this policy in, but what they're going to do with the huge sum of money is something we'll probably never be privy to.
However, while Disney will continue selling Princess Leia merchandise, they'll no doubt lose quite a bit of money by now no longer being able to sell goods related to how the character would have appeared in Episode IX had Fisher not tragically passed away. Throw in the expense of probably reshooting Episode VIII and altering the follow-up, and that could actually account for that $50 million pay out.
