Mark Hamill Thinks We Should Manage Our Expectations For STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

Not that he's suggesting it won't be a great movie, only that it'll just be a movie. While talking to Hero Complex, the Kingsman: The Secret Service actor says that anyone expecting The Force Awakens to be the "second coming" is in for a disappointment.

During an interview with Hero Complex, actor Mark Hamill discusses his cameo in Mathews Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service, his return as The Trickster on the CW's The Flash, and, of course, Star Wars. Hamill will reprise the iconic role of Luke Skywalker in J.J. Abrams' upcoming The Force Awakens, and talks about his surprise at the level of security that was necessary to prevent leaks while filming. "Oh, my God! It’s just crazy town," he exclaimed when asked to describe his first day back on set. "First of all, the security. We had problems before with people leaking stuff, but I was saying to them, “Is it really necessary to put on this giant robe with a hood that hangs down to your chest to go from my trailer to the soundstage?” They said, “Drones.” I said, “You’re kidding! Really?"

He also assures fans that it's all for their own good, and they'll be glad they avoided the leaks/spoilers when the film hits theaters this December -- though he seems to think they shouldn't build it up for themselves too much. "Believe me, it will be here before you know it. Forget about it, that’s my advice. Look forward to all the summer movies. I’m telling you, it’s just a movie. These people that build it up in their minds like it’s going to be the second coming of, I don’t know what — they’re bound to be disappointed." He has a point. Remember the intense fan-fervor leading to to the prequels? Still, I think we'll all be happy as long as the movie is f*cking amazingly awesome. More at the link below.

He does have a good point. Fans often hype up big movies like this to near impossible levels, and then ultimately end up disappointing themselves. It's best to keep moderate expectations going into any movie, and then hopefully not disappoint yourselves as much.

Didn't the disappointing prequels lower everyone's expectations for TFA? I know it lowered mine.

He's just saying that people should always temper expectations and realize Star Wars isn't the only thing out there.

Cause remember when EVERYONE was hyping Star Wars Episode I to be the second coming of Cthulhu and when it turned out to be bad they all went into a murderous rampage in an orphanage.

So many bodies... so many lives lost.

Hammil's gotta point. The reason The Phantom Menace is hated so much is because of all the expectation it had building up to it.

How's he a dick, he's telling people not to overhype stuff, whenever something is over hyped there are people bound to be disappointed.
Films, videogames, comics...
I think the only dick here is you.

We're gonna need to start putting either CA in front of the abbreviation for The First Avenger or we're gonna have a major problem on our hands with this.

I think he has a point, in some cases, but I personally don't feel this is the case for me. I enjoy the hype and I don't think it will affect my ultimate feelings on the film.

I remember a period of time around when one of the biggest blockbusters was coming out, I want to say Superman Returns, and after seeing it and being disappointed I thought to myself, "there are no movies I'm looking forward to after this one". I remember being very sad that I had nothing to anticipate, nothing to look forward to. But I'm very much enjoying looking forward to new Star Wars.

Plus, if the new SW turns out to suck (which I don't think it will), then the high of the anticipation will be the primary means of enjoyment I get from the film. Might as well enjoy it now.

So true. It's also kind of funny that this also applies to cbm fans

It's going to be a lot of butthurt fanboys when this movie drops. Some people expect to pay $10.00 and have their lives changed in two hours.

This is what happen to the Prequels for sure. I thought they were all well made movies that stands on its own two feet as its own trilogy that can stand side by side (albeit a lil lower than) the original trilogy. They were great but lost some magic by using green screen and cgi too much. The props is one of the big differences between the two trilogies and which is something that makes me very happy about episode 7. JJ Abrams recognizes this and is using as many props as practically possible. I think Ep.7 will end up being amazing but will feel just as different as a trilogy as the prequels feel different from the original trilogy. It too will stand on its own two feet, so I hope people do not hate on it being its own thing like they did the prequel because thats not fair. I would hate the prequels had they just flat out tried to copy the original trilogy because thats just boring and no one actually wants that even though they all say they do. If it were to happen people would be more pissed that its the same old thing than if they were sooo diff they didnt feel like star wars.

I will never forget the guys running into the theater like maniacs in the behind the scenes thing on the Phantom Menace DVD. Yeah, we were all excited, but come on. And it is even more embarrassing when you out it in context of what they sat through after acting that way.

He is absolutely right. It may be an amazing movie, and bring back everything we loved about the saga 30+ years ago, but ultimately it is still only a movie.

@INSTANTJUSTICE - It's not a good movie. But the fact it's Star Wars makes the hate so much worse.

You're equation doesn't balance. It's missing this moment:

@markymarkrises, that is also a good point hr made, about just enjoying the movies coming out now. And it gets difficult when you know SO Mich about what is coming later. I had to really calm my mind about Avengers 2 while watching the previews before Winter Soldier.

Be mindful of the future, but not at the expense of the moment.

Which goes to demonstrate yet again that anyone who posts leaked concept art and plot rumors for monetary value can hardly call themselves a fan.
