STAR WARS: Bob Iger's Return To Disney Could Finally See Lucasfilm Get Its Movie Slate In Order

It's no secret Lucasfilm is struggling to get the Star Wars franchise in order (on the big screen at least), and Bob Iger's return as Disney CEO looks set to make up for the mistakes made by Bob Chapek.

Despite finding huge success on Disney+, the Star Wars franchise is definitely in trouble on the big screen. Countless movies have been announced and then failed to materialise (including Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron), and there is now a long list of projects in development from various filmmakers...and your guess is as good as ours when it comes to whether they'll happen!

Earlier this week, news broke that Disney CEO Bob Chapek has been ousted from the company, with Bob Iger stepping in for the next two years to get things back on the right track.

The Direct (via SFFGazette.com) has shared a very interesting rumour suggesting Chapek could be to blame for why the Star Wars franchise has been shelved since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. It's said that the former CEO was responsible for the directive to not release any Star Wars movies, likely because he wanted to prioritise building Disney+'s streaming catalogue.

Profits have always been at the forefront of Chapek's mind, though he hasn't done the best job with that either, hence why he's now been ousted. Iger is a creative at heart, so we're bound to see some big changes in the months ahead (don't be surprised if that results in Marvel Studios moving out of this current "quantity over quality" era).

Elsewhere in the report, it's noted that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has a deal in place until at least 2025 and, as a longtime friend of Iger's, it's likely she'll remain in charge of Star Wars for the foreseeable future. There are conflicting reports about her future at the studio, but when hasn't there been?

It's definitely going to be an interesting few years for the Star Wars franchise with Iger back in charge, and as the man responsible for acquiring Lucasfilm and getting that new trilogy mapped out, we're sure he'll push Kennedy to get her house in order beyond just what we see on Disney+.

As always, keep checking SFFGazette.com for the latest Star Wars updates as we have them.

Fix Star Wars, leave Feige alone, and make some top notch rides for the parks. Make a 5 or 10 year plan, take another retirement with more stock options, and fly off into the sunset. We're all happy lol

Remember the excitement around the internet when a new Star Wars movie was announced for a 2015 release, 10 years after the last one?

Delaying theatrical releases can only be in their favor, well maybe not money-making-wise, but you know what I mean.

Good. Star Wars is a movie franchise first and foremost. Movies will feed the shows and prop them up more than they ever could do on their own.

Would love to see them adapt ‘Tales of the Jedi’ from Dark Horse Comics into a film/tv series.

Either the Ulic Qel-Droma/Nomi Sunrider Era OR the Naga Sadow/Hyperspace War Era.

Due to these being set 4,000-5,000 years before ANH … the pitch is really Star Wars meets GOT-House of the Dragon/LOTR-Rings of Power.

@ObserverIO - yeah…a Disney Rip-Off. I am asking for the real thing. Not what Disney poached.

It's crazy Chepek got fired for all of Igers poor business decisions. Every movie that's tanked this year we're all contracted under Iger reign and mostly completed while he was there up until February when he finally stepped away. Imo chepek was the fall guy so Iger could save face and his "legacy" wouldn't be trashed because he overpaid for several studios and greenlit some terrible shows and movies. Chepek was at the helm for 11 months any movie decision that were made won't come to fruition for at least 1.5-2 years. I think brining Iger back for 2 years will be worse for disney in the long run.

@Rokhorn - indeed. It’s wild crazy seeing all the people trashing Chapek while the current Disney is still showcasing Iger’s last products (so to speak) and poorly delivering while at it. Seems like Chapek has been used as a skapegoat, for lack of a better word. I believe mass media opinion is much more heavily influenced by the political attitudes each of the showed, than on factual analysis of each’s decisions outcomes…

Everyone thinking Chapek was the problem and not Kennedy...

Chapek wasn't the problem REALLY.
Iger and the board ARE the problem.
They'll continue to lose money since they will also continue to push propaganda that alienates the vast majority of it's core customer base to appease leftist politics.
You all know it's true and they know what the problem is. They just won't admit to it either by way of actually supporting this crap or by way of fear of backlash from leftist activists.
It's already played out this way and FL was an example of forcing a choice stance for what largely has no business being even discussed by the company just as it had no place in school systems to begin with.
Anyhow, I'm here for it and the continuing failure of the company until they either reset their priorities or just fail. I've zero sympathy for their crash course into an iceberg.

Not to mention, Kennedy is Iger's doing.

It's like George Lucas gave his kids to someone with a history of ruining kids. He went from the proud papa of Star Wars to being tortured as he was forced to watch Disney destroy it. Now Lucas must watch Disney abuse the corpse of Star Wars
