Star Wars: The Last Jedi has yet to arrive on blu-ray but the film is available on digital formats, which includes a commentary track with Rian Johnson. While, many interesting details from the commentary track have been noted, one detail hasn’t got a lot of attention. In the commentary track, Rian Johnson reveals that the fanfare that plays along with the film’s opening crawl is actually different from the one heard in A New Hope. While clearly similar to the iconic music we all know, Rian Johnson reveals this is actually something that’s occurred in all Star Wars film that feature this fanfare:

“If you listen to all the movies every single one of them has a slightly different take on the mix of the fanfare. Some are brighter, some are warmer, The Force Awakens one has a lot of kind of sharper tack to it. We went with kind of like a warmer type feel.”

This is all actually quite surprising as most seem unaware of the different fanfare used in each film. So, what do you folks think? Did any of you notice any of the small changes? Do you care about this fact? Whatever your thoughts, make sure to comment below.

The opening crawl normally, subtly, reflects what you are going to experience in the movie.

You dont alter it to be 'warmer' if you open with a "The good guys are basically dead" which is exactly what he did, ignoring the victory at the end of TFA and the fact that the First Order was defeated except for Snoke, Kylo and Hux the implied only survivors.

You open the movie with 'The First Order Reigns' and go on to tell us how the resistance is basically doomed, barely escaping as they are mercilessly slaughtered with no allies and no hope to the extent Leia is basically hoping that Luke will come save them... and this has a 'warmer type feel'? WTF?

I can’t wait to see how people have an issue with this despite Rian saying every film has had a slightly different fanfare & for nearly 3 months, nobody has noticed or complained about the fanfare

@LEVITIKUZ -
"nobody has noticed or complained about the fanfare"

People have noticed, compared and analyzed the differences in the opening text crawl music for years. It's surprisingly something that a lot of the Star Wars community debate over, which one has the best intro music variant.

@JK2point0 - He was recording a commentary for the blu-ray and he thought it would make for an interesting tidbit. Christ, some people just love to bitch and moan about EVERYTHING related to this movie as loudly as they possibly can.

That last part doesn't necessarily pertain to you, BTW. It pertains to other users on this site.

IX wishes
- Luke as an force ghost. My dream is to have Luke, Qui-Gin, Yoda, and Obi together talking. That'd be so cool.
- Explain why Anakin doesn't talk to Kylo. My idea is that Snoke was somehow messing with his ghost to cause Anakin to not communicate with Ben.
- Give the Knights a badass fight scene. Imagine Kylo and like six guys with red sabers charging towards Rey?
- Vader's Castle. Nuff said.

Interesting article. I look forward to Josh Wilding re-posting this later on as his own, just with a more click-baity headline.

When the plot around a movie, a space movie, which revolves around a ship running out of gas...there was never a story to begin with. Since the first star wars movie i ever watched until the last jedi, not once it ever crossed my mind "what if this star destroyer or corellian ship ran out of gas". But yet leave it to rian johnson to use it as a plot for an actual episode of star wars. And I thought the trade federation crap in the prequels was terrible. Now back to the last jedi, you would think a resistance ship with Leia on it would be refueled right when they get to a planet and not when the first order shows up and the resistance need a quick getaway. I can forgive maybe the luke stuff but the basis of Everything happens because of their car ran out of gas. Oh and the tracking through lightspeed is what we in comics call "pis" plot induced stupidity. Needs no further explanation.

It's really weird because I watched the last jedi at the thwater (admittadly fairly drunk) with a bunch of mates and was really confused with what I could make out. Saw it a few days later again with some friends and was the only one to be conflicted about how I felt.

There were a few screeners online and for the first time I had no intterest in watching a star wars film again. Watched it the other day in HD immediately after watching the force awakens and i really enjoyed it. Maybe because I knew what to expect this time that I could appreciate it. Idk, either way i'm still more hyped for the anthology films than the actual "saga" which is sad. But "Solo" does have me interested but idk if that's just because i'm a Ron Howard fan.

“The First Order reigns” this line makes out this movie is set years after The Force Awakens, but it takes place seconds later from the end of that movie, where if anything The First Order has just suffered massive losses.

I wish they had modernised this conflict a bit.
