STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI: Andy Serkis Reveals Some Huge New Details About Supreme Leader Snoke

Andy Serkis has shed some light on Supreme Leader Snoke's role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and it sounds like he's not only connected to the Sith but someone who has big ties to the Resistance...

The identity of Supreme Leader Snoke has been driving us all crazy for the past two years and we still have no idea who - or what - he is. However, in a new interview, Andy Serkis has shed a little more light on what we should expect from the villain in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and it definitely sounds like he has big ties to the Sith. However, his motivations may be even more personal than imagined.

"The thing about Snoke is that he is extremely strong with the Force, the dark side of the Force. He’s terribly powerful, of course. But he is also a very vulnerable and wounded character," Serkis explains to the site. "He has suffered and he has suffered injury. The way that his malevolence comes out is in reaction to that. His hatred of the Resistance is fueled by what’s happened to him personally."

So, it's clearly personal between Snoke and the Resistance and it seems as if his horrible injuries may have come as a result of their actions. Could that be what led to him embracing the Dark Side?

Time will tell but director Rian Johnson says we shouldn't necessarily expect any big reveals and likens him to the Emperor in the original trilogy as an overarching figure who we knew nothing about. Serkis, meanwhile, teases tension between Snoke and Kylo Ren. "His training of Kylo Ren is not yielding what he wants. Therefore his anger towards Kylo Ren is intensified because he can’t bear weakness in others. Part of the manipulation is goading him with Hux and playing them off against each other."

What do you guys think of these comments about Snoke? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Someone in the resistance, or at least tied to it, probably disfigured him.

I never understood why there were so many theories about who or what Snoke was. His character was only in 1 or 2 scenes in the film and he hardly left an impression at all. I think its clear he's a brand new character anyway.

@Nightwing1015 - Because without any explanation, he's just another Emperor. Like everything else in this trilogy, he's just a lamer, less interesting version of something way better that we've already seen.

People want him to be somebody recognizable because that would at least validate his existence, as well as the whole new trilogy. It would wrap up all of the stories together neatly and make it one long saga rather than JUST an unnecessary rehash of the original trilogy.

@IronSpider101 - might want to stifle some of that salt.

Idk if you noticed, but the very article we are on reveals something that makes him dramatically different than palpatine: he has a motivation. That is objectively more interesting than the emperor in the original trilogy, he actually has a story instead of being just an evil dude that's evil because evil. Yeah in the first movie he was just a hologram, but look! He might be better than the emperor! I mean, if you even give it a chance.

Or you get hung up on appearances, and just call this an empire strikes back clone without even acknowledging the differences like so many other people on here.

@IronSpider101 - Yeah I agree. The biggest problem with this trilogy is that the Saga was already complete. They should have just told a brand new saga set 100 years in the galaxy's future or something.

@BloodyBed - No salt here. I am in no way a Star Wars fan.

Speaking as someone who just likes stories and storytelling, and who has an appreciation for what Star Wars accomplished rather than any personal adoration of the material, I gotta say: it had closure.

Like @Nightwing1015 said. It was a complete saga. If you're going to continue something, there's gotta be a valid reason for it. Reasons like revealing a much larger story at work that the audience was previously unaware of and bringing closure to that. Still a cash grab, but at least there's a story and some sort of validation and entertainment in the exercise for people who are into it.

Snoke is not objectively more interesting because he has motivation. The motivation could easily suck, not be explored in the movie, or even just flat out make for a weak character. Great villains don't need motivation, they just need to fit the dynamic of the story in a way that compliments everything overall.

Anton Chigurh is a great villain, never had any deep motivation. The demon in The Exorcist never had a deep motivation, it was just evil. Likewise, The Emperor didn't need it, because him having one didn't benefit the story.

From the perspective of story and direction, unless he gets killed off in favour of a better villain, or turns out to be a character from a previous film, the series will have been a bust.

It's not just about his character. He's the antagonist. The driving force behind conflict that our heroes have to resolve. Regardless of his motivation or personality, in the end if his role in the story is the same as what we've already seen, then this entire enterprise has been a waste.

Am I the only one who wants to see his take on Jungle Book.
Also, the film is likely to be retitled as Mowgi And Tales Of The Jungle Book.

@SmilingTRex - no I'm with you. The guy has learned directing under some of the best. He was number 2 on Lord of the Rings and the hobbit trilogies. I believe in him.

Luke should be the one who disfigured Snoke's face in a fit of rage when he discovered that he had manipulated his nephew with dark intentions and that is why he exiled to the distant planet.

Who cares?

If he's not an ancient Sith or Plageuis, who cares? Missed opportunity.

At the very least, they have to explain where the flark this guy was while Palpatine pretended to be the Lord of the Sith.

He is the perfect person to play this character. Seeing what he did with Ceasar in apes was amazing. He shows rage so well. He can be subtle to extreme in seconds.

I love it, that's my management style too.

So he was disfigured by the resistance? He was probably on the Death Star both times it was destroyed.

"dark, light, and something else"

Kylo Ren will be the "something else", pushed away by Snoke, abandoned the light, nowhere else to go but the third option.

So still no absolute positive proof yet that Snoke is probably Windu?

The fact that they didn't think this through (Snoke's character) it's not very reassuring for me.
And it's strange, he has a pretty specific look, just look at that scar for example, how can you not have a backstory for all that?

I'm sure they will find a way to explain eveything, but this is not how you do things...

There's a new theory that recently started circulating that he may be a Whill who fell to the dark side. I much prefer that to any of the other rumours like Plagueis or whatever. There's no need to reveal him as an established character or use time travel or any stupid plot devices like that, just loosely tie him to established lore but let him be his own character. Far more interesting than some cheap reveal that'll only satisfy the most hardcore fans.

His background (and face) keeps matching with this guy.

Rush Clovis has a very personal issue with Skywalkers and the Republic... plus, he was raised by Muuns, Darth Plagueis'race. (but explicitly only in Legends canon)

Also, Clovis loved Padmè and hated Anakin during his Jedi times... what about killing his son and drawing his grandson to the dark side?

He should be in his 70s (he has the same age as Padmè) in TFA/TLJ so it also matches the old-man looks of Snoke. Also, he was the pupil of the Bank Clan who financed both Republic and CIS. Easy access to money to build an army then.

Saw Gerrera worked in Rogue One, so could he be another animated character making the jump?

@FrankieDedo - There's no way that Padme would only be 70 in TFA/TLJ. Luke and Leia are 30 years older than they were in 6, so they'd be at least mid 50s. Padme was mid to late 30's when she died. She was 10 years older than Anakin. She'd be in her mid to late 80's at this time, possibly older.
