Earlier this month, we learned that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson has been hired by Warner Bros. to take the helm of a Star Wars trilogy set in an entirely different part of the Star Wars Universe. No details have been revealed about the direction that will head in or if it will replace the current Skywalker Saga. However, the belief is that it will revolve around an entirely new cast.

It's also going to be set in a different part of this universe, a
game changing decision which could alter this franchise forever. Will it take place in a new time period or show a different side of one we're already familiar with? Right now, we have countless questions but Johnson is excited to get to work!

"We’re gonna have to see," the filmmaker said when he was asked about the upcoming trilogy. "I’m just in the very beginning of starting to come up with what the new trilogy is going to be. But I can tell you this, what makes me so excited about it, is the idea of doing a new story on the big canvas of three movies in this world. There’s just so much potential and I can’t wait to jump into it."

It sounds like it could be a way off then and it will more than likely kick off following the release of Star Wars Episode IX. As a result, it's going to be a while before we hear anything concrete but Lucasfilm clearly has plenty of confidence in the filmmaker and that probably means we should too, right?

It would be too good to see his costume on stage.

Using Darth Nihilus as an image was a cruel trick to play.

Having that KOTOR-era stuff would be pretty fantastic though.

@BossDarkseid - It would be epic. Darth Revan, Malgus, Malak, Nihilus, blockade wars, mandolorian wars, return of the revan, infinit empire... ohh man ohh man...but we will get probably a shit story.

“hired by Warner Bros. to take the helm of a Star Wars trilogy”. So is Superman going to come in at the end and save the day?

@Micro - while he is dope, I just want to see more than one red lightsaber on the screen at a time.

The sith empire. The sith [frick]ing Empire.

I have a feeling rian will just set it after these movies though.

Either that, or an old republic that is nothing like the games.

@BloodyBed - We could have got that, if the knights of ren were to be seen.

Seriously, where are the knights of ren?

@Micro - but they don't have light sabers I thought?

It would be kind of hilarious/sad if they just never mention those guys again.

@BloodyBed - I thought they did, but they weren't sheaved. Even if they did not. They were most facinating and original part to the new trilogy.

This should have been what the new trilogy was. Just a brand new saga. Not trying to continue one that was already finished.

@Nightwing1015 - If it was the old republic, it would not be new. The story is already there.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 11/23/2017, 3:49 AM
@Micro - It would be new enough in the sense that we'd never seen it in a canon film before. My point is at least it would be set in a different time period and wouldn't rely on past films.

@Nightwing1015 - Thats true, but i want them come up with something thats actually original. Or least use resources in a way we havent seen before.

@Micro - Yes I agree that would be the best option.

I'd love a companion series modeled on the X-Wing books with Poe as a main character and a leader of a motley crew of pilots and technicians. A series more based on the "politics" of the galaxy, rather than the Jedi and Skywalker drama. Big space battles and quips and ground assaults and espionage and such, while the numbered episodes deal with the Jedi and Force and such.

I just can’t help but wonder how disconnected they can make the new series and still have it be “Star Wars”. I’m perfectly fine getting away from Skywalkers and Jedi, but some of the talk around this makes it sound like it would be far removed from everything that has come before and I question what Star Wars even is if you strip all of the trappings from it.

I click these articles hoping for insight, but am only provided with awkwardly written sentences and typos; literally zero information besides a quote that says nothing.

Warner Bros? I've seen seen users get verballly skewered over mistakes like that in the comments.
