SILK: SPIDER SOCIETY Moving Forward With THE WALKING DEAD Showrunner Angela Kang

It's been a while since we had any updates on this one, but Silk is still moving forward at Amazon, and the Spider-Man spin-off series has now enlisted a new showrunner in The Walking Dead's Angela Kang.

Despite rumors to the contrary, Sony Pictures' live-action Silk series is still moving forward at Amazon, and the Spider-Man spin-off has now enlisted a new showrunner.

According to THR, The Walking Dead's Angela Kang has been brought on to oversee Silk: Spider Society, "the first in an expected slate of Marvel TV series based on the Sony Pictures universe that features more than 900 characters."

Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) are still on board as executive producers. The show is expected to air domestically on MGM+ before moving to Prime Video.

“I’m beyond thrilled to be joining the Amazon Studios family for this next chapter of my career,” Kang said. “I look forward to working with the executive team on diverse, character-forward, watercooler shows for a global audience and am so excited to dive in to my first challenge — bringing Korean-American superhero Silk to life on screen.”

“Angela is a pro’s pro whose perspective and creativity we greatly respect and admire. She’s also a hell of a lot of fun. She loves these characters and we feel really lucky for the chance to work with her to bring Cindy Moon’s story to the world,” added Lord and Miller in a joint statement.

According to a previously-released character breakdown, Cindy Moon, aka Silk, is "a kid from Queens who is on her own for the first time. Although she’s a total beginner in law enforcement and fighting crime, she is said to love the feeling of beating up criminals to let her frustrations out, and has an affinity for ‘80s and ‘90s pop culture."

In the comics, Moon was a classmate of Peter Parker’s, first introduced in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #1 back in 2014. After being bitten by a radioactive spider, she gained similar arachnid-based abilities and took the superhero mantle of Silk. Tiffany Espensen actually appeared as the character in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

"Multiple" other shows are planned, but we have no idea which other Spidey-related characters they'll focus on. Stay tuned for updates.

I like Silk, but considering just how bad TWD can be at times it's hard to be excited for this.

I don't know much of Silk as a character and I dropped Walking Dead after Season 7. I don't know what to expect from this series but I hope it turns out well. Too bad this will be in the SUMC which I'm not a fan of.

Just wish Sony and Marvel could work out a deal to do shows based on the MCU Spider-Man movies for Disney+. I would love a full-fledged faux news Daily Bugle show.

This is why Sony needs to lose the rights to Spider-Man. They have the ability to work with Disney on creating a successful Spider-verse set within the MCU if they are willing to work out deals. Silk, Black Cat, and Silver Sable could work well on Disney+ that can build into the MCU. But Sony would rather use any and everything Spider-Man in different forms of movies or shows to make it difficult for Marvel Studios to integrate into Tom Holland's universe.

I must admit that this is something that could actually work and be good. It has the right executive producers and though I have heard the walking dead is no longer that good, I liked that series while I followed it. And with no spider live action series on, I actually welcome this.

The first word she uses to describe this is diverse.

Quality will be about the 23rd priority like it is with all the Sony Spider-Junk movies.
