He talks sooooo slow and with a monotone voice. Listening to him speak is so boring... God I hope the movie does not have him like that the whole time..

Spider-Man is not supposed to be dark and gritty he is the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man not the Spider-Man who wants to cut himself and beat you to death with a metal rod. I am still not sold on this film but who knows it might be the First class of next year where it blows us away.

I like the tone of the film, and Superbat. "First Class" wasnt that good, it had LOTS of flaws.

Anyone else think the term "dark and gritty" is used alot? Its kind of annoying.

There is a lot i don't like about this film so far but at the same time there was a lot wrong with the original trilogy so I am willing to give it a chance. I don't think a Spider-Man movie should be compared to a Batman movie even based in a real style world. Spider-Man isn't dark but is sometimes psychological, and it's always Spider-Mans love for his friends and love of life that always that always propelled him to the top. Spider-man doesn't fight for the people he's lost; he fights for the people he has and that can never be rewritten in any context.

@fceviper I think Webbs version of "grounded in reality" will be slightly different than Nolans. He's not ditching super heroes... he's just getting away from the campy colourful stuff. This may trump TDK.

I agree. That's what makes Spipder-Man one of the greatest superheroes. And in my opinion, Spider-man should never be compared Batman. In any context. They are completely different men, fighting for completely different reasons.

i think everyone can relate to spider-man/ peter parker so well that no matter how your life may differ from one another, it is so easy to feel like your life is almost a reflection of his. (minus the web slinging and wall crawling of course) so many of us can relate to the dark and somber things that he has gone through while others recognize the light-hearted and cheerful moments. to me he is what life is all about and from the looks of this movie, its looking to capture all of life's darkest and brightest times. but sony may prove me wrong...praying they don't.

Grounded and gritty,

Wow that is groundbreaking (sarcasm) only every other superhero movie tries to be the same way, in some interview someone spouts those same words talking about how grounded the movie is.

And the word gritty is used too much bring back gnarly please.

Spidey is cool though I want to see this movie.

anyone who says Spider-Man isn't "gritty" obviously doesn't read Spidey. lets break down Peters crappy life. Uncle Ben murdered, Gwen murdered, Harry addicted to drugs and later dies from the formula that made him the Goblin. Peter almost kills Aunt May by infusing her with his own blood, the lizard kills his own son, lets not forget Carnage who is a mass murderer. oh and of course McFarlins run on Spidey. not "gritty" my @55

^exactly
the character itself is light and humorous, but the world he lives in is just as funny, light, adventurous, dark, and violent as the real world.its always been like that in the comics, which is why i love them.seeing this character in those vastly different situations is appealing and interesting to watch.

Osiris@- Aside from his parents, don't forget

^^^The ultimate one-two punch. Your girlfriend's father reveals he knows your secret identity and trusts you even though your a vigilante and he's a cop. He makes you promise to keep his daughter safe as he dies in your arms . . . but we know what happens to Gwen after that.

That is screwed up.

@SpideyCHOP- Before BND Spidey's could have said"

My Parents are dead,
My Uncle and Aunt are dead,
My 1st girlfriend's father died in my arms,
My 1st girlfriend is dead,
My best friend's dad is dead(I killed him, sorta)
My best friend is dead,
My Best Clone Brother Friend is dead,
And that's not nearly as bad as what happened to the people that didn't die.

@ScionStorm

yeah I was only touching the tip of the iceberg, there has been so much crap that happens to Peter it's part of what drew me to the character in the first place. his stories are more realistic then most bad things happen to good people in the real life and the spidey stories really reflect that.

to me Spidey is a character that the film industry doesn't have to worry about "grounding" because it already is. the good guy doesn't always beat the bad guy and he doesn't always save the girl and the ones he does save he doesn't always get. people die and there is nothing you can do about. now sometimes they come back in the spidey universe but most have not. Gwen and her dad, Uncle Ben, Ben Reilly, to name a few.

Spidey is and forever will be my favorite super hero because he is the most relatable.

also to add to the 5hit storm that is his life lets not forget that He lost his only child... and his wife no longer remembers they were ever married or even had a kid to begin with.

I just realized it was Peter David's first professional comic assignment. His first gig and first gig with spidey was to deliver a dark story and kill off a big character.(which he refused to resurrect because it would weaken the story)

@ Fearless, commonwealth actors reign Hollywood, most of them are either British, Irish, Canadians or Australians.
Yet you still have an handful of good American actors, usually from New York. Since New York is like a different country... yeah you are right, You can't find Americans to play American iconic characters!!!
