We all know the acting talents of Denis Leary, who has recently starred in Marc Webb's upcoming superhero flick
The Amazing Spider-Man. The actor sat down with Movie Fanatic for a rather lengthy interview concerning a few touchy topics from the film. Most notable a few
spoilers that concern a particular scene in the film, as well as the fate of Captain Stacy in possible sequels. So if you don't like the notion of going un-surprised, then turn back now. Otherwise enjoy the read below, and of course we here on CBM as a respectable news site are careful about posting from interviews, so only some of the interesting parts of the interview are below. For the article in its entirety, just hit the link! The film will be released in U.S. theaters tomorrow.
Here is a
spoiler about the subject of
what it what like for Leary to work in such a story-driven yet action-oriented film, and what it was like on the scene between him and Andrew Garfield(Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man), specifically when he has to remove Peter's mask. He comments on how powerful he felt the scene was albeit very brief. Read below:
Everyday it was awesome. There were very few days where it was just pure action. You have to do those, but even in those big sequences there were days where we were doing a big piece with emotional power. When I come down in the helicopter and have that conversation with Andrew as Peter, he spent so much time that day and night on that moment I pull his mask off. The recognition between us, which on screen is very brief, is emotional and powerful.
Leary was asked if it was usually like what was described above in the world of film. Leary replied:
No, normally it would be the reverse in an action movie or not even in there. It spoils you. I’ve have to think twice now if someone said, “I got this great action movie.” Who’s directing it? How much acting are we going to do? You know? It was a pleasure with Marc.
Here is a
spoiler concerning Captain Stacy's fate in any upcoming sequels that are sure to follow. This is a pretty heavy hint at what's to come, so if you want to be surprised, you know what to do and what not to. Leary was asked what it was like to be a part of
The Amazing Spider-Man and the continuation of the story. He said:
[SPOILER!]: It means we have to re-cut it so I can live -- because I get (expletive) in the sequels. No, seriously, ultimately in the beginning I just wanted to meet Rhys, because I really like his work. I liked Marc and wanted to get into his wheelhouse. I think if the movie works, it means he will be making a lot of movies. I would like to work with him again because I really had a blast. I’m at that age where I have to have fun while I’m doing it. Marc’s good, man. He’s all about the right things.
After that startling revelation, they went back to the topic of working with Andrew Garfield, the elder actor seemed overwhelmed by the talent the actor held. See his response below:
I don’t know, man. He’s like way beyond me! I had to learn how to be a film actor while I was doing it, which I’m sure was the same for him. It takes a while to learn the tricks of it. This guy, how many movies into his career is he? Like four? He’s playing Spider-Man and Peter Parker really well, in my opinion. He’s a character actor. He’s not a vanity leading man. Then, I saw him do Death of a Salesman on Broadway. He’s the real deal. He may be a movie star after this, but the work he did in Social Network was no (expletive). He was putting it on screen.
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
