J.K. Simmons Reveals Why He's Disappointed About The Spider-Man Reboot!

The actor briefly shares his thoughts about the rebooting of the franchise and reveals one very specific reason for why he's upset about not returning as J. Jonah Jameson...

It's hard to tell whether or not the actor who portrayed The Daily Bugle boss in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy is joking in his following comments, but it is fairly clear by reading them that he'll neither be returning to portray the character in The Amazing Spider-Man or is in the least bit bothered by that fact. Well, apart from the loss of a paycheck!

Are you upset that Spider-Man is being rebooted?

There were a lot of levels on which I was disappointed by that, not the least of which was financial because, you know, a sequel is one of the few times that a journeyman like me gets to make a big fat paycheck.

I did read that you bought a new house.

Yes, indeed. Which I'm now paying for with commercials instead of Spider-Man 4.

With an all star cast that includes Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy, Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and Sally Field as Aunt May, The Amazing Spider-Man is set to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012!

I'm disappointed about the Spider-Man Reboot too, [frick] another origin and [frick] the crappy new Spidey suit!

JK would have owned in a Spidey 4... Raimi should have had the chance the make up for 3...

Oh well.

: P

JK its such a shame, the best ever JJJ!

I mean he even talks about money in real life as much as JJ does in the comics

I hated the material they gave him to work with in Spider-Man 3 (it was more cring worthy than hilarious) but he was great in the first two. Despite the somewhat dodgy looking costume, the reboot is shaping up to be perfect! A much better cast so far.

They'll bring him back in sequels to the reboot as J.J anyway.

This is hilarious, made my night.

Stop being such a sellout and go find a good gig, he's a good actor pick yourself and get over it.

@Josh....agreed....the material given to him could have been better....considering that his back story is very amazing and I think a great idea to explore, but they never explain the true reason he hates people in masks

I want to see him as JJ again in the reboot.

If that happens I'll be fully confident in the reboot. I already love the title.

I cannot believe you fanboys actually want 'Spider-Man 4'. After all the sh*t you talk about 'Spider-Man 3'? Really?!

He was so perfect as Jameson, that it's just fine that he won't be in this retarded new franchise. No one could ever capture the character the way Rowling did!

I don't like transcribed interviews without audio for this reason: it's hard to tell if he's joking or not without context. This is the interview with Van Atter's actor all over again because we have no concept of tone. He's a fantastic actor and has no trouble working with the big directors, so I'm inclined to think that he's financially stable and is just messing around.

NinjaCarm:

Talk about disrespectful. "Boy"? He's 56 [frick]in' years old, loser. And to claim that he didn't care is at the height of presumption. Who cares if it was financial? At least it increased his visibility for other projects, and if he exploited that like so many other actors have to to fund their other passions, then good for him.

Anyway, it's a shame Raimi never let him explore Jonah's serious side, because JK Simmons can do serious without losing his badass voice (which is perfect for the character) in any way. Just look at his character in Juno, which was largely serious despite its tongue-in-cheek tone.

for one marvel did not make the movie, I still don't understand how some people don't know the films marvel has no control over.

another thing is that his portrayal as JJJ is overrated. Yes he was great, but JJJ is more than just screaming and corny jokes.

last thing is that I don't understand after all the [female dog]ing ppl gave about spiderman 3, why would you think spiderman 4 would've been any better.

Bring back Spider-Man 4! If not what they should do is have him as JJJ in the next amazing spider-man, it could work. Bond was rebooted but the same woman who plays agent M continues to play that character.

Jk is really the thing I'll miss most about the previous spidey flicks, they were good for their time but they're a bit dated now, still enjoyable but I think the reboot was needed. Nobody wanted 'Vulturess'.
I actually didn't mind Spiderman 3 either (better than X3) but I'm convinced this reboot will be 10 times better than the last series (minus the costume) but I'm really gunna miss jk as jj, he owned the role

i loved JK as JJJ but he was at least imo the only good part of the spiderman trilogy and i am looking foward to the new spidey reboot i think it is going to be good and i hate how ppl keep sayin frick the reboot u havent seen anythin that shows it is going to be a disaster and even so u havent seen the finished product to be able to judge it and imo if u judge the movie be4 a trailer and be4 seeing it u jus sound stupid

yeah this is an old article, but I guess this confirms the fact that he will not be in this movie.

@LEE: This movie won't be an origin story. I posted an article a little over a year ago confirming that.

The big problem with the Spider-Man trilogy was that it was just too Campy, especially Jameson and the Green Goblin.

Im glad about the Reboot, it wouldve been cool for simmons to be in the reboot series, just make him a little more realistic, personality wise

Im one of the people who doesnt want a Spider-Man reboot, a continuation with a new cast (apart from JK) & director would have been so much better. Spider-Man 3 ended in such a way that it tied up all the loose endings of the trilogy. They could of continued on with new villains and a new cast without having to establish a whole new Spidey film universe all over again

Meh, call me when Marvel Studios eventually reboot it again
