Something that we missed from Collider's revealing interview with Kevin Feige last night, was that the Marvel Studios President has seen a cut of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man. Now I realize directors/actors etc praising upcoming movies is nothing new, but bear in mind, although Spidey is a Marvel property and the studio does have some stake in the movie, TASM is a Sony production. So while it was unlikely that Feige would say anything negative if he didn't like it, it's a good sign that he found the movie "excellent"..
Q: First off, have you seen The Amazing Spider-Man? I know it’s not your movie.
Kevin Feige: Yes. It’s excellent. It’s not finished, but what I saw was very encouraging and very good. And the whole notion of [I hate that they] “reboot this, that” should go away when people actually see the movie.
Well there ya go, the first brief reaction to
The Amazing Spider-Man, albeit from someone close enough to the production. Does this do anything to assuage any doubts you may have had? Or will you have to hear a lot more (and from a very different source) before changing your stance?
The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
TAMS hits theaters July 3rd.
