MADAME WEB Star Sydney Sweeney's New Horror Movie Ends On A Truly Shocking Note - SPOILERS

Sydney Sweeney's new religious horror movie, Immaculate, hits theaters this weekend, and the ending is pretty shocking. If you're okay with spoilers want to know what happens, right this way...

Sydney Sweeney plays Spider-Woman in Sony Pictures' Madame Web, but the highly in-demand actress also has a very different kind of movie hitting theaters this weekend in religious horror flick, Immaculate.

You may have already heard that the ending is a massive shocker, but might not be aware of just how messed-up it really is.

Obviously, if you're planning on checking the movie out, best to stop reading now, as major spoilers follow from this point on.

The Euphoria breakout stars as Cecilia, a young woman of devout faith who is offered a new role at an illustrious Italian convent. When she arrives to the European countryside, the mask of her initially warm welcome soon slips to reveal dark and horrifying secrets.

After a series of gruesome deaths, Cecilia discovers that the convent's head priest/geneticist (don't ask) is attempting to bring about the second coming of Christ by impregnating some of the nuns using DNA from one of the nails that was supposedly used to secure Jesus to the cross.

Cecilia realizes that her "immaculate" conception is the result of one such experiment, and she ultimately loses her mind and escapes through the catacombs, leaving a trail of bloody bodies in her wake.

When she finally emerges, Cecilia gives birth, bites through her own umbilical cord, and... smashes the baby's head in with a rock.

Yeah. That...that happens.

The final shot of the movie is Cecilia manically screaming into the camera after obliterating what was most likely some kind of twisted abomination (we never actually see the child) that would probably have died anyway.

Some have interpreted Cecilia's actions as more of a "mercy kill," but it's still pretty dark stuff, we're sure you'll agree.

Jonathan Davino for Fifty-Fifty Films produced with Sweeney, alongside Middle Child Pictures’ David Bernad, who developed the project with the actress following their work together on The White Lotus. Teddy Schwarzman and Michael Heimler produced for Black Bear, which fully financed and represented the international sales rights. Black Bear’s John Friedberg and Christopher Casanova served as executive producers, alongside Will Greenfield.

Immaculate marks the second recent collaboration with Neon and Black Bear after Michael Mann’s Ferrari, which hit theaters Christmas Day. Neon’s 2024 slate also includes Sean Baker’s new romantic drama Anora and Pamela Adlon’s directorial debut, Babes, starring Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau.

Directed by Michael Mohan and written by Andrew Lobel, Immaculate also stars Alvaro Morte (Money Heist), Benedetta Porcaroli (Baby), and Dora Romano (The Hand of God).

The movie is set for a theatrical released on March 22. Do you plan on seeing this one on the big screen, or will you wait for streaming? Let us know in the comments section down below.

I've seen Antichrist, I've seen Mother. I can name some more, but this is just shocking for this site; or just shocking enough to get yet another article out of.

@IAmAHoot - The only thing that's shocking is that it's even on this site to begin with. What's the tenuous connection, Sweeney was in Madame Web?

@JoeInTheBox - agreed. This should be in the horror section, not the comic book movie section.

I'm surprised @MarkCassidy decided to write a spoiler article instead of a proper review, in part because his reviews are usually pretty great whether I agree with them or not. After reading this article, I was ready to dismiss the film as intentionally offensive schlock. Then I decided to go read some other reviews, and it actually sounds pretty good. Everyone seems to think it's pretty beautifully shot, and well acted... And actually might have some solid social commentary.

As one critic said: "Immaculate digs into the way organized religion constrains, punishes, silences, bullies, vilifies and oppresses women and then unleashes glorious fury. Fearless, cathartic, bloody, beautifully sacrilegious fury." That has me kind of intrigued!

@Izaizaiza - I don't get the time to review everything I see... wish I did. Anyway, Immaculate is decent, but I wouldn't go much further. The ending is great but the rest of the movie is too reliant in jump scares.

So let me get this straight...

The plot of this movie is a Nun is impregnated with a Jesus clone (very Jodorowsky's Dune btw) and she kills it by having an abortion?

Abortion kills it's mortal enemy; The Christian faith.

@ObserverIO - a partial birth abortion at that

The plot jumps the shark with the whole nail aspect.

Just don't spoil Late Night with the Devil if you'll write another horror movie review with a comic book actor that is attached to it which is the case with David Dastmalchian.
