To close out their CCXP Worlds presentation, Sony Pictures brought one very special surprise from Spider-Man: No Way Home, and while it wasn't new footage, it was the next best thing as they held an exclusive panel with the three returning villains: Willem Dafoe (Norman Osborn/Green Goblin), Alfred Molina (Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus), and Jamie Foxx (Max Dillon/Electro).

They understandably couldn't reveal any spoilers, but did speak at length about their roles and how it felt to return to the world of Spider-Man after stepping away so many years ago. They also touched on how things have changed in the past two decades.

When asked about which of the three villains they consider the most terrifying, Foxx offered an intriguing tease about the Green Goblin's role in the film and how it may be seriously bad news for our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

"We've just been watching Willem and it seems personal, because with us - to Electro, it's the world did me wrong - but, when something is personal... there's nothing that can beat that, no matter what costume you put on, no matter what you say. So, when he speaks, he has the power... it's personal and anytime you can get a character to be personal in the movie, it has the most weight."

Tom Holland will headline the feature with a confirmed supporting cast that will consist of Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, Angourie Rice as Betty Brant, Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan, Hannibal Buress as Coach Wilson, Martin Starr as Mr. Harrington, J.B. Smoove as Mr. Dell, J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, Benedict Wong as Master Wong, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.

Plus, Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin), Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus), Jamie Foxx (Electro), Thomas Haden Church (Sandman), and Rhys Ifans (Lizard) will all return as villains from the earlier Spider-Man films.

Additionally, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Charlie Cox have all been heavily rumored to reprise their roles from the previous Spider-Man movies and the Daredevil TV series, respectively, although none of them have officially been confirmed just yet.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to swing into theaters worldwide on December 17.

Just watched it and I love seeing how excited Willem is. He and Jamie look nervous during this because you can tell they want to give away so much. I love it. All 3 guys still look fuxing great!

So the Mysterio bowl on that magazine was not a Mysterio bowl on that magazine. Crap. Oh well still glad Rhys and Church are here too. But man that would’ve been villains of all 3 Spidermen. Oh well

@TheWalkingCuban - “Oh well still glad Rhys and Church are here too.”

Are they though? This almost confirms for me that they aren’t. I mean, we know for sure Lizard and Sandman are back, but everything we’ve seen from them so far has been completely CGI. If that’s the only way they appear in the movie then there’d be no need for Ifans or Church to return. But if they are then why aren’t they on this panel too? Or where are their character posters? It’s not a surprise those characters are back.

Goblin’s got something to say this time… 🤔. I know people around here are down on this for some reason but I am absolutely hyped. I can not wait for the 16th. Goblin will be out for blood.

Tom Holland to Tobey:

@MyCoolYoung - It's true. The first movie, Gobby's main motivation was a power play and getting revenge on the people who doubted his genius such as the board of Oscorp and the military contractors who decided to go with a different company.

He wanted to take spidey on as an ally too but wants revenge when he rejects him.

MyCoolYoung - 12/4/2021, 11:34 PM
@JFerguson - I’m not disagreeing at all. It’s exciting to hear and I can’t wait to see it. An already unhinged character(I mean he came for may in the first one) with the knowledge he died taking things even more personal… sounds amazing
JFerguson
JFerguson - 12/4/2021, 11:42 PM
@MyCoolYoung - Oh gotcha. I admittedly didn't want Dafoe's goblin in this movie at first, but slowly warming up to the idea if he is the main antagonist and is the one devising the plan that will give Tom's Peter the most headache.

It seemed like Jamie dropped a spoiler when he was talking about Dafoe being the scariest, hence why the interview cuts forward a bit
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 12/5/2021, 12:00 AM
@JFerguson - I didn’t even notice it cut forward. I do hope this leads to Tom going against his own goblin but I doubt it.

I do think it’s only right that goblin be the scariest though. Doc ock, lizard, sandman all kind of came to their senses at some point during their movies and like Jaime said his electro was mad at the world and not necessarily Peter.

These 3 villains plus Lizard and Sandman..Sony wouldnt half ass it and give us a movie with just 5 members of the Sinister 6 would they? 🤔🤔🤔
TheWalkingCuban
TheWalkingCuban - 12/4/2021, 11:09 PM
@Frshcoupe - they’re 5/6 assing it, which is good for Sony but obviously their way of saying “you want 6? Wait til you see what we have in store! It’ll be better than this MCU crap! Venom, Morbius, and yeah vulture, but Kraven and others too! Don’t worry it’ll be 6, unlike SHMARVEL! Cuz we told em no haha!”

Cue @Waddles

What an awesome interview.

I love the answer regarding who is the scariest, and Foxx says Dafoe because it's personal against Spidey. I can't WAIT to see it.

I know Willem is cast in villainous or slightly evil roles ,pre often than not, but every time O get to see any interview with hi, he appears to be such a nice, super lovable person.

I wonder where Holland was when we already have seen all of this before but just a different way ... I wonder how good that most would think these films are if they were just one company or if it would just be adults making up new words for actors and film companies beside making films that are good beyond a watch ?

I feel sorry for Alfred Molina, as they'll probably kill off his character without a reunion with Tobey :/
AC1
AC1 - 12/5/2021, 5:13 AM
Part of me will always be a tiny bit disappointed that bringing back past versions of these characters means we'll probably never get MCU versions, but I'm so excited for this movie and I'm so happy these three actors in particular are getting to reprise their villainous roles and that they all seem so enthusiastic about it.

Also I don't think we're getting the full story on these characters being brought to the MCU from right before they died in their own realities as the trailer suggested.
AC1
AC1 - 12/5/2021, 5:20 AM
@AC1 - Also hopefully they'll bring back Thomas Haden Church as Sandman and he won't just be CGI the whole time. It'd be great to see Rhys Ifans back as Dr Connors too but it seems more likely that Lizard will remain CGI and probably more animalistic throughout the movie.

@AC1 - We sort of "are" getting the MCU versions, but Kevin loved those character/actors combinations and didn't want any others.

Great interview and good to hear they appreciate that the characters they play have huge back stories which the fans sign up to. I’d agree with Jamie that is the Goblin that is the most scary, done right he’s like the Kingpin or Elektra in the Netflix shows where they really get that feeling of being a complete crazy across to the audience. Can’t wait.

@RokoVII - Sometimes there just aren't words.

Other times (like in my case), I just don't know right words.

As much as Dafoe and Molina were great in the Raimi trilogy, I'm still kinda bummed they are pulled over as the same characters. If the Ock and Osborn of the MCU finally are gonna show up, I think they'll just end up feeling like copycats
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 12/5/2021, 8:28 PM
@bkmeijer - If the characters do get an MCU variant, then they will have to be pretty different conceptually or even just visually. Giancarlo Esposito as a cold calculating Norman Osborn/Goblin or Lena Headey as a more overtly unhinged Carolyn Trainer/Octopus would help.

But maybe it's also a blessing to be able to explore some other Spidey-Rogues.
I always ranked the Vulture and Mysterio quite low, but what the MCU did with them was chef's kiss for me. Who knows what Marvel Studios might do with a Spot or Jackal: two characters that would never top most people's list of most-desirable adaptation target.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 12/6/2021, 1:39 AM
@Spock0Clock - that is true. Ock is really a character I wanna see Spider-Man meet that is from the MCU (because I really want a proper Sinister Six), but aside from that I don't mind smaller or less known villains. Beetle or Boomerang would be fun to see

Will the CGI tentacles live up to the puppets? I always found that so cool, just like Favreau opting to suspended Robert Downey Jr. from his feet in Iron Man as opposed to his body.
