SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Weaves Mighty $181 Million International Debut For Expected $500 Million Global Launch

We have some early numbers in for Spider-Man: No Way Home's performance at the international box office, and it's looking like the wall-crawler will web up an amazing $500 million worldwide this weekend!

Spider-Man: No Way Home opened in a handful of international locations on Wednesday, and after crossing $67 million overseas on Friday, the threequel has racked up a spectacular $181.4 million haul. A $121.5 million opening day in North America means the movie has already crossed the $300 million mark, and Deadline believes it's looking at $500 million by the end of today.

That will become clearer once we have Saturday's numbers and estimates for today; however, if the wall-crawler's latest solo adventure does top $500 million, it will be only the sixth movie to do so. It's also worth noting that Spider-Man: No Way Home would be only the second blockbuster to do with without being released in China (there's still no word on whether that will happen).

The trade notes that the UK was the highest international market with $24.9 million with Mexico, Korea, Australia, Brazil, France, Russia, India, Italy, and Germany rounding out the top 10.

Reviews and word of mouth for Spider-Man: No Way Home have been extremely positive. In our spoiler-free verdict, we concluded with: "Spider-Man: No Way Home is the greatest Marvel movie ever made. Period. As epic as it is emotional, this is not only a perfect blockbuster, but Spider-Man’s wildest, funniest, and most awe-inspiring adventure yet. It's a Marvel masterpiece."

The box office has slowly started to bounce back in recent months, but it's clear now this movie has truly saved it. How The Matrix Resurrection fares next week should be interesting, though we're not expecting The King's Man to make much of an impact (it has a score of 49% on Rotten Tomatoes right now).

On the way to a billion (yawn). can't wait for the Batman!

@superherodevourer - now that you mention it what’s your guess for Batman’s box office? Ima say 700 range

@TheWalkingCuban - I am hoping for a whole lot more, but, I agree with you on the 700m neighborhood. Maybe, 800...🤞

TheWalkingCuban - 12/20/2021, 8:51 AM
@LonelyRanger - At this point 1 billion might not be out of the question. If the joker can do it, I think this movie can as well, since some blockbusters will play as if there is no pandemic. So if joker can almost reach 1.1 billion, then Batman can pass that. I don’t expect it to play like an avengers movie the way Spiderman is, somethings just have that cultural Zeitgeist

@Havenless - That's also very important for the market. The US has become very dependent on China and even the supply chain fiasco is why depending on China is a problem. I hope Spider-Man No Way Home hits $1 Billion without China and encourages movie studios and other companies to slowly pull away from China.

@Havenless - spiderman has always made 500 mil+ without china. i think if u adjust for inflation the raimi ones did that too. no way home will make 1 billion without china similar to how star wars did but i dont think it will make 1.5 bil without them. lets see if it will even do as well as far from home without china

I do think it's well deserved. The movie did an excellent job not only being a fun movie in its own right, while addressing the criticisms of the past to make it feel like the first genuine Spiderman movie in the mcu.

Honestly not much to complain about, outside of how much of these criticisms could've been addressed in far from home and they could've worked the film to act more as a Spiderman 4 and an amazing spiderman 3, but those are admittedly minor complaints that don't really make the film itself worse, just how this take on the character and the movie itself could've been better.

This shows it’s not Covid that is keeping poor movies from making money, it’s the movie itself.

@Nunyabiz - exactly. That and a lot of movies are having streaming releases same day as the theatrical run.
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 12/19/2021, 8:12 AM
@Nunyabiz - that's not really fair to the other movies, this is Spider-Man, the single most popular superhero in the world, in a movie that promises to bring back familiar faces from the franchise's past in a 2 and a half hour nostalgia bomb extravaganza.
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 12/19/2021, 8:13 AM
there's also de the desire of not having to avoid spoilers for 3 months until streaming :p

@Nunyabiz - It's Hollywood execs keeping movies from making money. No movie is gonna make as much as the biggest Spiderman film of all time though.

"How The Matrix Resurrection fares next week should be interesting"
-That flick is gonna flop harder than my first marriage.
I watched a few minutes of a camrip and it looked CHEAP and seemed like an unintentional parody of itself. I doubt it will clear $300 million ww.

Warner Bros should learn about marketing Superman from Marvel.
Thing94
Thing94 - 12/19/2021, 8:16 AM
@pyramosteu - Could have made a Death and Returns of Superman two film epic with the other Supermen, marketing it with multiple posters of each Superman, Cyborg Superman, Steel, etc
Spidey91
Spidey91 - 12/19/2021, 8:17 AM
@pyramosteu - WB should market Superman to begin with :p
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 12/19/2021, 8:38 AM
@Thing94 - I don't want to see a Death of Superman movie unless I've had time to actually get attached to the Superman and he feels like an appropriately singular beacon of hope and goodness. Captain America's retirement and Iron Man's death didn't hit me hard because I care about those characters in abstract, it hit hard because of RDJ and Evans in those roles and how well their previous movies integrated them into their world.

The shock value of killing Superman is gone (now that Superman no longer holds the preeminent position in the genre, multiple superheroes have been killed on screen before, and people will see his return coming, based on the comics and multiple adaptations). And without that shock, the Death of Superman just depends so much on producing a flawless script (that I'm not sure anyone is capable of).

At this point, I pretty much just want a good Superman as a part of a good Justice League franchise. So much of his solo material has been repeatedly adapted already.

TheWalkingCuban - 12/19/2021, 9:15 AM
@Thing94 - nah that was 357, this will be at least 220 if it has deathly hallows legs, force awakens legs puts it closer to 250

It’s no Spider-Man 2. The magic easy bake oven potion pooper outter in Happy’s apt, Strange being so dumb as to break the universe so Peter can get his friends into college, just a lot of contrived shit in this film that took me out of the story. But Zendaya, Tobey, Garfield, all worth the price of admission and Holland gives his best performance in the MCU by far. def Watt’s best film if you ask me. The writing held this one back from topping Spidey 2 cuz the score, the music with the final battle between Holland and Gobby felt so much like Return of the Jedi with the music during that scene. Tons of awesome stuff. Aunt Mays line from Uncle Ben didn’t really work very well, felt forced. But it’s an 8 out of 10 on a good day for me. I think I enjoyed it more than Shang Chi so it’s the 2nd best cbm this year IMO

Amazing, spectacular, astonishing, sensational...erm...ultimate?...whatever, a truly superior box office, and all of that without China. I think it's time for Marvel to tell Xi Jinping to shove it, lets put some Mephisto up in this b*tch. I mean, not in Spider-Man though, last time that happened it was...no, just no.

I've never seen a movie come out and immediately become one of everyone's favorites like this in a VERY long time. Truly feels like one of Marvel's cultural milestones on the level of Avengers and Black Panther

TheWalkingCuban - 12/19/2021, 11:00 AM
@OmegaDaGrodd - def that, in terms of nostalgia, it’s the Force Awakens of the MCU, and I loved DoFP but it certainly didn’t reach these heights.

I like DoFP more, now that I think of it. Heck of a movie

@TheWalkingCuban - I ended up disliking Days of Future Past, but this freaking trailer is amazing. It was amazing then, it's amazing now. Even knowing how much the movie fell short of what I wanted based on this trailer, this trailer still gives me goosebumps.

[frick]ing Sunshine soundtrack... [frick]ing Patrick Stewart. [frick]ing James McAvoy... I have no choice but to be moved.

@Oberlin4Prez - I wouldn't get used to it. The eu countries are already locking down again and I'm sure draconian measures will be imposed on us here again in North America.

This is a blip on the radar of a dying economy in the west.
