Rhys Ifans Wont Be Charged Over Incident At SDCC

After varying reports of what exactly happened when Ifans was arrested at Comic Con earlier this year it seems that whatever it was wasn't enough to charge the actor with. Click for the details..

Rhys Ifans was in a spot of bother after this year's SDCC which he was attending as part of the Sony panel for The Amazing Spider-Man. Allegedly the Welshman shoved a female security guard after she refused a member of his entourage access to a certain area. Then conflicting reports stated that it was over Ifans smoking backstage in a non smoking area. The Wrap, who initially reported the guard shoving story now have an update which seems to confirm that their original account of things was more accurate. Whatever really happened, the actor is walking away from it.

From The Wrap..

"After reviewing differing witness accounts, our prosecutors concluded there was not sufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt," Gina Coburn, a spokeswoman for the San Diego Office of the City Attorney, told TheWrap.

Police said Ifans smelled of alcohol and became irate when a member of his entourage was unable to enter the hall for lack of proper credentialing. They said he shoved the guard in order to pass through, and was allowed to participate in the panel, but that the guard subsequently made a citizen's arrest.

Ifans was cited and released on suspicion of misdemeanor battery.

Just as easy as it is for them to get away with things, they're also a big target to get blamed for shit they've never done.

So we've finally abandoned the ridiculous studio spin that he was "just having a cigarette backstage"? He was drunk, threw a hissy fit when his entourage wasn't allowed to go where they didn't have proper credentials and finally just pushed the guard out of the way.

And I agree with the police, it's hardly worth making an actual court case over. It's enough that the guy was exposed as a pretty dickish individual in this instance.

He always seems weird and drunk. If watch his Comic-con interviews he's extremely weird, and slurs his words and talking about the role making him sexy??? I wish they got Dylan Baker, he was a great Kurt Conors. This guy seems like a rock n roll hippie version of a sort of doing the role justice that Dylan Baker would have done.

I been to Comicon, and half of those "guards" are lucky to employed idiots with giant asses and inferiority complexes. They love to say "No" and love to make people wait.

They are scum and Rhys would have probably shoved this prick for telling him he cant bring his assistant with him to the panel he's starring at even if he was perfectly sober.

Good for you Rhys!

Its not like he was accused of murder or rape, he shoved a comic-con security guard...

Not a big deal.

This whole situation got out of hand because the studio handlers who are supposed to head these kinds of things off, didn't do their job. Rhys Ifans may be a star and part of the Spider-Man panel, but that doesn't mean that he can ignore Comic-Con policies.

I was at the Con this year and have been going every year but one, since 2005,so I
can agree that many, not most, but a lot of security staff come off as cop wanna be's that love to shove you around. That said,it doesn't seem unreasonable if security staff might have an issue if they are not advised about talent bringing friends into a restricted area without prior notification.Had Rhys Ifans not been drinking,I'm sure he would have had the where with all to (A) See that a problem could happen when he tried to bring a member of his entourage(who appears to not be on any admittance list) into the Hall and have the studio get things straight,or (B) After things went down, have the sense to get a studio rep to step in and sort things out with the guard's supervisor. The Guard on the other hand should have the common sense to tell the difference between being assaulted and having her pride ruffled.
The first thing that should be drilled into the security staff at Comic-Con in regards to Hall-H, is that this is about the stars and the fans getting to interact in a raw, unfiltered setting where stars have in the past come in buzzed.Security has to know this and should be prepared to cut a little slack for boorish stars. It's clear that the security guard's supervisors didn't see this a criminal matter because Rhys Ifans was not removed from the panel and ejected from the Con because of his actions. The security guard took this upon herself to make a citizen's arrest because Ifans shoved her aside.Should he have done this? no.Does it rise to the level of assault? nope.

Watching these videos that KNIGHT3000 posted makes me miss Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi. The first Spider-Man movie is one of my all time favorite movies and I can tell you now that this new movie will not top it because not very many other movies have.

This whole thing with Rhys is just dumb tho. He seems to have an anger problem so I think this might happen more than once.
