I prefered Raimi's movies. Yeah, they are far from perfect, and it is funny that you say that SotoJuiceMan, as I thought the characterisation was a lot better in Raimi's, funny how opinions can differ so much even though watched the same movies.

I agree that TASM was a lot of "wait until part 2 moments", I know a lot of movies have a "cliffhanger", but this has a lot of storylines left open and to finish, which if you look at something like IM1, that works on its own, and the only thing that hinted at anything sequel-esc was the after credits scene, which doesn't really count.

All in all, I am looking forward to TASM2, but for me TASM1 was roughly on the same level as SM3 for me.

I enjpyed The Amazing Spider-Man and the new series has a whole lot of potential but the original Spider-Man had something that just can't be out matched.

I prefer the amazing spider-man, not to say it doesn't have it's issues because it's got a few big problems but I feel that it's a better movie than spider-man 1, mainly because spider-man 1 feels like almost everything that goes on in the first half of the film just stops as soon he becomes spider-man. Its also way too coincidental, for example just as Peter has got these new spider powers Norman Osborn is testing out an unstable formula that turns him insane again way too coincidental, where as in the amazing spider-man most things felt like they happend for a reason and came full circle, an example of this is Peter stumbles upon his dads work notes which has the missing piece to Connors formula and it also leads him to oscorp, Connors and the spider etc.

As for the characterisations in spider-man 1 people always say peter's a nerd but not once did i get the feeling that this guy is incredibly smart we are only told this by the other characters in the movie, yes he was socially awkward but he never came off as smart which is what spider-man is. And as for spider-man, he felt the exact same as Peter Parker when he did deliver the few odd jokes they came off as forced and out of character. In Tasm I got the feeling that peter was an intelligent guy, you don't have to look any further then the web shooters for that. And when he was cracking jokes because he was doing it throughout the movie it didn't come off as out of character.

I've recently been reading the Essential Amazing Spider-Man Comics, and I'm on volume 3 right now.

One thing that stood out to me in Raimi's movies is something that is a huge thing in Spider-Man; the fact that his life as Spider-Man keeps him from having a good personal life. They really did good with that, I think. Also, given the opportunity to quit, he couldn't be happier. And then, when he needs to rise again, he slips right into it. I thought Raimi's movies did good with that.

Unfortunately, I have yet to see Amazing Spider-Man.

I agree mrcool but the green goblin was better just because he was done first so it seems more original.

The more I watch the Amazing Spider-Man the more I enjoy it. With Avengers, the more I watch it, the more I dislike it and grow bored with it.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone vs Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst? That's easy.

TASM, easily.

TAS had more of a personal feel to it, just that scene where he saved the kid had more heart than half the shit that happened in spider man. How flash acted toward peter when uncle ben died little things like that made it more "real" Andrew Garfield is a much better Parker and his spider man actually talked shit and was funny, Toby just couldnt make it work for me I dunno.

Really liked TASM until Uncle Ben died. The death scene and rest of movie were terrible. Now I am not a Raimi fanboy, I actually hated SM3 but I still don't get all the love for this movie. It's like people want to LOVE this film just for the sake of SM3's disappointment.
RR51
RR51 - 11/11/2012, 11:01 PM
One more thing I didn't like in TASM is that the movie took it self way too seriously and then had scenes like the obnoxious bullying scene, lizard swats, Uncle Ben's Death, etc. While the Raimi films obviously had cheesy scenes, but they worked because the film wasn't trying to be serious.

DrHorrible

I liked TASM more than all three of Raimi's movies and I'm not afraid to say it. They're just not good to me anymore. They have too much fluff and way too campy moments that I can't really watch them in their entirety anymore.

Seriously, in SM2, he gives up being Spider-Man for selfish reasons, yet people criticize Peter in TASM for doing things for selfish reasons too. In SM2, yes, he redeems himself, only because MJ was in danger. If that hadn't happened, he probably would've stayed out of the superhero life. In TASM, he also redeems himself by using his power to help people instead of hunting for the killer, the catching of which would only satisfy himself in the end.

Also, whoever says that TASM "doesn't have heart" is dillusional. Let's see:

1.) Fighting through a gunshot wound to try to save a city from Dr. Connors and his plan.

2.) Construction workers, one of which was the father of the boy that Spidey saved earlier in the movie, helping Spidey make it to Oscorp, which inspires him to fight long enough and gain the will to fight through his injury.

3.) Spidey saves a kid in a burning car on the bridge, showing his worth as a hero and making him realize that using his powers to help people is better than using them for personal gain.

I can go on with more, but I won't. Yes, the Raimi movies were good in their time, but that time has passed. We have yet to see what the new franchise, in its entirety, has to offer. I honestly can't wait to see what they bring to the table.

To be honest i think Raimi's Spiderman was flat out a better film.

While Tobey's peter parker wasn't as wisecracking as he should have been, Garfield's was a bit too CALM COOL and quirky, it wasn't that great. I Don't think either nailed the character of peter parker but i still found tobey's version more likeable.

Amazing had a couple cool combat sequences but as a whole it wasn't anything special. Raimi's was.

@ JDUKE25
Yeah I'm starting to get tired of The Avengers too.

Plus I loved the two original Sam Raimi movies because I grew up with them; and I had never seen a character like spider-man come to fluition like that on the big screen before.

I mean the first time I saw the Spider-man in the theaters, and saw him swinging around New York, was just spectacular, and memorable.
NostalgicYouth
NostalgicYouth - 11/11/2012, 11:32 PM
But I will give TASM this. It had some spectacular special effects, and shots plus Dram Lee's cameo In that libary with spidey battling the lizard was just classic Spider-man.

Combine the best things about these films and you have great Spider-Man movie.

Andy was better Parker and Spider-Man but Toby´s Spidey costume was better than Andy´s. Just change the webbing on the costume black and its perfect.
Also web shooters has to be there. Its great way to show Parker´s ingeniousness.

IMNOTU - 11/11/2012, 11:55 PM
The "Amazing" Spider-Man was terrible. From the terrible costume to stuttering Andrew Garfield it was more emo than the third Raimi movie and less realistic. There is no way Gwen Stacey would've gone for that Peter Parker.
niknik
niknik - 11/11/2012, 11:56 PM
I think people forget exactly what they felt after having first seen Raimi's Spiderman. It was considered by most walking out of the theater as one of the best if not THE best comic book film to date.

I just cant stand Hollywood any more with all the reboots these days, and rebooting a franchise after ten short years is friggin retarded among all other stupid reboots. There was plenty more to tell and the actors were (and still are) young enough to continue to play those roles. Reboots should be at most once a generation, not once per decade.

Or hey! Here's an idea. Stop with all the rebooting and rehashing the same stories over and over, and instead come up with something original for a change.

TAS has a better Peter/Spiderman, pure and simple. GArfield and Stacey are magic together and while I wish the guy who originally was going to be the Lizard from the Raimi trilogy was in this one, I really like this guy who ended up with the role.

And this one definetly understood that Peter is heavy into science like in the books, something that was missing from the Raimi flicks.

raimi's was better. tobey's peter was an awkward, shy outcast and that made me root for him. garfield was more of a cool rebel and i didn't like it at all.

I grew up with Sam Raimi's Spider-man trilogy and I thought that "The Amazing Spider-man" was better developed in terms of the characters' relationship to one another. I cared more about these characters in this one film than I did with any of the characters from the previous three films. As for the villain, he seemed like a counterpart to Alfred Molina in Spider-man 2. However, I think the Lizard's ideologies and goals made more sense then Doctor Octopus's. My hope is to see villains like the Chameleon or the Spider Slayers in following sequels; villains and characters that haven't been used before.

Totally evil villain would be great for a change.

If Electro is the next villain i say make him terrorise Osborn´s company and blackmail Osborn. Like Hobgoblin did in the 94 animated series.
Peter shows up cause he is Spider-Man and all and is the only one who can stop Electro.

Hobgoblin would be awesome villain also. He steals the chemical which makes Osborn the Green Goblin and blueprints of the glider.

ASM is awful, just awful.

And can we please stop using web-shooters to show how "Uber smart" Peter is suppose to be in that movie? He didn't even make them really, he took oscorp tech and made it smaller, big friggin whoop.

Honestly the fans of ASM are kidding themselves.

Speak4yourself - 11/12/2012, 2:22 AM
Electro would be an interesting character to see in the next Spider-man, but I'm still hoping they use the Chameleon. I think they could do a lot more with that character. The way I see it being that Norman Osborn is dying, the Chameleon could be employed by Oscorp to double for Osborn. He could be the one taking on the Public Media while Osborn is getting the treatment he needs to live. That's just my perspective. Bottom line, I'm rooting for "Smerdyakov" to make his debut on film.
