SPIDER-MAN: Dylan Baker Talks Possible Lizard Return; Reflects On First Day Filming SPIDER-MAN 2 (Exclusive)

Dylan Baker reveals whether he'd be open to playing The Lizard again after starring in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, and reflects on the experience of shooting director Sam Raimi's beloved Marvel movies.

After playing Dr. Curt Connors in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, Dylan Baker's chance to transform into The Lizard was taken from him when Spider-Man 4 was scrapped (Rhys Ifans instead played the villain in 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man).

Earlier this week, we sat down with the LaRoy, Texas star and managed to get in a few Spidey-related questions. With the likes of Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina reprising their Spider-Man trilogy roles for Spider-Man: No Way Home, we wondered whether Baker would be open to playing The Lizard in a Multiverse project or even a new Spider-Man 4

"Oh, I’d go in a New York minute. Absolutely," the actor confirmed. "Sam Raimi also did the film, The Simple Plan, which my wife was in, Becky Ann Baker. He is a filmmaker who can do so many different things. Drag Me To Hell, Evil Dead, the Spider-Man trilogy…he’s just awesome. Then, he goes to Oz and everywhere."

"Whatever Sam wanted, I’d go there," Baker concluded.

We also asked him what it was like to be part of such a groundbreaking superhero franchise and he revealed what it was like to be on set for the first day of shooting Spider-Man 2

"Well, you know, I remember the first scene I had was on the campus of Columbia University in New York. So, I went up there and we worked for six or seven hours and, as I left, I think I had a cell phone at the time, I can’t remember, or when I got home, all of a sudden, my friend called me up" and said, ‘There are these pictures of you online.’ ‘What are you talking about?’ ‘You’re in Spider-Man!’ I said, ‘How do you know that?’"

"I went to where he was looking and there were pictures online already of the scene we did today of me and Tobey! I had no idea they could happen that fast," Baker recalled. "It was just crazy, but really fun. I got more into the effects in Spider-Man 3 with that glob and running all over and everything, and having to do all of that. Yeah, it was really fun. It was a lot of fun."

Check back here later this week for our full interview about his role as a very different type of hitman in LaRoy, Texas, an action-packed new thriller also starring The Umbrella Academy's John Magaro (we also caught up with him and filmmaker Shane Atkinson, so stay tuned for that as well).

Broke and depressed, Ray (John Magaro) is mistaken for a dangerous hitman and given an envelope of cash. Along with his P.I. friend Skip (Steve Zahn), he must escape the actual hitman to make it out of LaRoy alive.

LaRoy, Texas arrives in theaters and on Demand on April 12.

I remember being a kid being so hyped to see Baker's eventual turn into Lizard, shame that we'll probably never get to see it now :(

@Superspecialawesomeguy - I like classic Lizard with the lab coat.

@marvel72 - Yeah I prefer the labcoat look as well but I think Raimi would have made the naked version pretty cool and intimidating lol (especially with his background in horror).

@Superspecialawesomeguy - Baker’s lizard is who should’ve appeared in No Way Home! I get why they used ASM2 Lizard; but since we’re leveraging the multiverse; give us the Lizard we never got to see!

Hell, that’s the whole fun of the multiverse schtick!

@MG0019 - you’re absolutely right about that. The worse part is that Otto didnt even acknowledge it being Conners even though they’re friends in spiderman 2

I was really excited to see his turn as the lizard back in the day, but I think that ship has sailed... Or at least I hope it has. They have set up Tom Holland's Spider-Man to do a lot of classic stories. He's no longer iron Man Jr, he's poor and unknown and alone. Let's focus on that and try to make it as good as we can instead of rehashing stuff from 20 years ago.

@Izaizaiza - They want to go more street level with Spidey and Lizard definitely fits that.

@JonC - Yeah, I'd love to see Holland's Spider-Man Go up against a new version of the lizard. If they do that, I hope they focus more on Kurt Connors family this time

I always heard the Villian for the 4th movie was going to be the VUlture with John Malkovitch in the role. (Something I would've LVOED to see).

It'll been cool to have them both the Lizard and Vulture in the movie if done right.

I'd love for him to be the Lizard in a raimi adaptation off the Shed Storyline.
