THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: Marc Webb On Lizard's Lab Coat

Fans have wondered where Lizard's iconic lab coat is, and now director Marc Webb promises that fans won't be disappointed! He also comments on what made the Stan Lee/Steve Ditko creation a good choice of villain and more.

While Marc Webb has decided to go for a slightly different look for The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man (inspired more by Steve Ditko's work than the animalistic version made famous by the likes of Todd MacFarlane), that hasn't stopped fans from wondering whether the iconic villain will don his equally iconic white lab coat. "That's a good question. Be patient, grasshopper," Webb teased in a recent interview with MTV Splash Page. "[Regarding] the lab coat, be patient...you won't be disappointed."

As for Curt Connors motivation s and what made him the perfect choice of villain, Webb revealed: "For the Lizard, Doctor Connors has a missing arm, which sets him on his path. There's this symmetrical theme in Curt Connors being the literal embodiment of the movie's theme: we all have a missing piece. How we look to fill that void is how we define ourselves. It made sense. After I figured that out, it was a logical choice. Obviously, Curt's morality is looser than Peter's turns out to be, but their motivations are quite similar," he added. "They just evolve and manifest themselves in different ways."

STARRING:

Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy
Rhys Ifans as Curt Connors/The Lizard
Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben
Sally Fields as Aunt May
Denis Leary as George Stacy

RELEASE DATE: July 3rd, 2012.

Hopefully he'll have pants and a lab coat so that people will stop talking about about why he doesn't have his manhood. That's why I'm sooo glad Hulk has pants! :) It is plain freaky when they don't... like ewwwwww...

I'm getting tired of these directors and their teasing cryptic bs. Why is it better to release tons of pics and info that displeases fans if they have the fan-pleasing stuff on deck?

They seem to love the "See, it was going to be in there all along, we just made you wait to see it, meanwhile you spent a year being pissed off that the movie was going to suck". Great marketing strategy. smh.

Anyone who based their opinion of whether the movie was going to suck or not on something as trivial as a labcoat is completely retarded. General audiences base their opinions like this: Is Spider-Man in it? Does it look action-packed? Any interesting actors or actresses in it? Fanboys, of course, want to see how much stuff from the comic gets screen time, and that's a good criteria; but we shouldn't get too hung up on little details because it makes us look like idiots who'd rather see an accurate movie than an entertaining one.

I think the suit looks great, Gwen looks great, Dennis Leary as a very hostile Capt Stacy creates one of those classic Peter Parker relationship problems, and Webb obviously sounds like he's thought out the characters well so they won't seem flat. I'm not sold on the look of the Lizard, but I'll give the movie a chance to convince me otherwise. And if the action and dialogue are good, a few visual flaws won't be deal breakers for me anyway.

supersaiyanfan1: Thanks for the update buzzkillington lol. RIP Dick.

@xstryker: Yeah well some fans are more hard core than others I suppose. I understand not everything from the source material can be duplicated in a movie, but at the same time if they chnage too much then it starts to approach the "loosely based on" territory.

@itsbarry- Webb a better director than Nolan? Let's see here. Webb has only directed 1 film while Nolan has made 7 with another out this summer. Nolan has gotten Oscar nominations and many other awards while Webb was only nominated for a Golden Globe once.

Also, why would audiences get tired of superhero movies when a DC film comes out, but randomly become interested again when a Marvel film comes out afterwards? Your bias is showing.

Anyway, I wouldn't have such a problem with the absence of a lab coat if the Lizard looked like the Lizard. We should have gotten a terrifying reptilian creature, but instead we got Goomba leftovers.

Nothing about this movie excites me besides the cast.

I know for a 100% certainty the lab coat will be on the lizard around 30%-40% of the time we see him. We all will see it.

@ SpiderFan35 It's called leaving surprises for the actual movie. And why didn't they show images of "fan-pleasing stuff"? Because the lab coat isn't going to be on the Lizard the entire time! Seriously, all I hear is complaining.
