So I listened to the reviews when ASM 2 was released to theaters and skipped it, but after watching it at home, I can honestly say I regret that decision. Hit the jump for the full review!

Source: MetaComix

Director: Marc Webb

Writers: Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci

Stars: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane Dehann

Summary: Peter Parker seeks to discover the truth about his parents and Oscorp while attempting to balance his personal life, desires, and responsibility as Spider-Man.

What I Liked

✔Visuals were amazing. Really felt like Spidey popped off the page with his movements

✔Garfield nailed his performance, bringing the wit, humor, and angst of Spider-Man to life

✔Great love story-hits you right in the feels

✔Villains weren't overloaded like in SM3

✔Dane Dehann was outstanding as Harry Obsborne

What I Didn’t Like

✘Middle section dragged on a bit

✘Not enough Spider-Man action

✘Rhino was a bit weak, the accent was horrible

✘Ending felt rushed, not given enough to time to develop

✘Alternate ending with Richard Parker alive was cut from the film, which was a much more powerful ending than the one the filmmakers decided to use in the theatrical release

Themes:

  • Personal responsibility and choice

  • The burden of knowing the truth can sometimes be painful, but necessary

Score:  8.5/10

Nice Review. I agree with all your points except the Richard Parker ending. That being said they should have gone with a different ending altogether.

@Dingbat

The ending was by far the weakest part of the movie. I would take the Richard Parker ending or a different ending over the one they used. How would you have ended it?

I'd have to think about it more but I certainly wouldn't have a time jump. The ending spanned months in a matter of minutes and it felt rushed. Richard Parker's story isn't all that interesting either though so I wouldn't have used him.

@Dingbat

Definitely was rushed. It was meant to have some type of emotional connection, but the uneven pace at the end fell flat.

It's not so much, in my opinion that Richard Parker's story is interesting, but the idea of Peter actually having his father back in the picture and the effect that would have on him in the moment and in the future I think would be interesting to explore, especially since it's never been done before in the movies.

For me in comparation of marvel Disney and fox , Sony make the best bluray editions, with so much making offs ;3

@MrSotoMan

I have to totally disagree with you on the romance not needing to be added to the movie. His relationships are an integral part of his life and character, so I think to not have that element in a film would be stripping him of a lot of his depth and motivation.

However, I agree whole heartedly about the cure for Harry thing. Unless of course, it would've just turned him into the goblin...I'm not sure if that's what they were alluding to or not. That whole thing didn't really seem clear to me, which was another negative, something I hadn't thought of, so good catch.

I'd like to see the third movie with a different director, and as everyone and their mother has already stated, I want to see the rights for Spidey back with Marvel. I feel they'd do a much better job with the character and of course include him in the Avengers. Wishful thinking.

Thanks for the kind words! Hey it's totally cool for you to disagree, and I appreciate that you had ACTUAL things to say that you didn't like about the movie.

I see where you are coming from on on what you didn't like. TASM2 is one of those movies that's really about preference or taste. It's not a clear cut "good" or "bad" movie in my opinion, like say Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which just about everyone agreed was a good movie. This one got a 50% or something like that, so people are divided.

I definitely think it could've been light years better, and I think a lot of the bad choices being made are coming from the director and the studio suits.

Marvel needs this property back so it can be done right. I hope that happens in my life time lol.

Thanks for the comment, which was also well thought out.

after seeing this movie now 4 times in theater and 3 times of blu ray; hands down my favorite movie ever.

obv being a huge spidey fan has me being bias towards a spidey movie. but its a fantastic COMIC BOOK movie that literally felt like watching a comic book come to life.

the movie just keeps getting better and better the more I see it. same thing happened with the first asm. this series gets better and better the more I watch it whereas most other movies get worse and worse.

good review though as I always appreciate fellow peers enjoy the movie like i did rather than hear what all the marvel studios fanboys have to say about this movie.

p.s. I love marvel and collect all marvel comics and tv shows and movies. im just open to other comic book movies not made by marvel studios and hope batman v superman is awesome as well just to shut up some of these marvel fanboys.
