On Marc Webb's effortful quest to find an actor to suit up as the new friendly neighborhood Spider-Man,for Sony's reboot of the franchise he found British actor Andrew Garfield.
On the quest concluding with Garfield, there were hundreds of young actors considered. And after each stage, those young men were narrowed down in the process. Eventually the "hundred" became three "strongly" considered finalist. Obviously knowing who one of the three were, the other two has been revealed.
An individual with immediate knowledge of the casting process tells Deal Central that contrary to published reports, Sony only reviewed the three strongest test tapes and that the other two finalists were Jamie Bell and Alden Ehrenreich.
Before narrowing down to the three, the supposed short-list included Aaron Johnson, Anton Yelchin, Josh Hutcherson, Frank Dillane, and of course the finalists.
Jaime Bell has the most acting experience landing many roles in tentpole films including Peter Jackson's King Kong remake. And the English actor recently wrapped on Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn". Alden Ehrenreich was discovered by Steven Spielberg when Spielberg saw a short comedy movie featuring the actor at the age of 14. Having the least amount of experience out of the short-list, the actor has come a long way.
But Andrew Garfield will be the next big thing in this reboot. And directed by Marc Webb, production begins in December, and Spidey swings back into theaters July 3, 2012 in the big 3D.
