PRESS RELEASE:

Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and Marvel Entertainment, LLC today announced Spider-Man™: Edge of Time, where Spider-Man faces one of his greatest challenges ever – saving Spider-Man. Developed by Activision-owned studio Beenox, Spider-Man: Edge of Time challenges the player to take on the roles of both classic Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 to correct a timestream gone awry and prevent a catastrophic future brought on by the early and untimely death of Peter Parker.

"The first Spider-Man entry by Beenox, Spider-Man™: Shattered Dimensions, was touted as one of the wall-crawler's best Spider-Man games to date from both critics and fans," said Vicharin Vadakan, Director, Global Brand Management. "Beenox is once again taking a fresh and different approach to bring a fast-paced and high-octane adventure and unexpected story to life in Spider-Man: Edge of Time."

"At Beenox, we are constantly listening to the fans and looking for new and creative ways to innovate the gameplay experience for them," said Dee Brown, Studio Head, Beenox. "We want to create a totally distinct experience in Spider-Man: Edge of Time by working with Peter David on the story and creating this urgent, high-stakes experience where time is working against you and the fate of Spider-Man hangs in the balance."

Spider-Man: Edge of Time is a focused, action-packed adventure set in two connected and evolving timelines, from the contemporary times of the Amazing Spider-Man to the corrupted future world of Spider-Man 2099, against the backdrop of a rich, tightly crafted narrative by acclaimed Marvel veteran Peter David (co-creator of the comic book series Spider-Man 2099). The game features all-new "cause-and-effect" gameplay, where players will see how the immediate and sometimes unexpected effects of their actions as one Spider-Man changes the timeline of the other Spider-Man. Spider-Man: Edge of Time is slated for release this fall.

Attendees at WonderCon 2011 in San Francisco, CA, can get a sneak peek and learn more about the game on the Activision/Spider-Man panel on Saturday, April 2, at 4:30 p.m. in Room 103.

Oh great a re-hash of SD this time with only 2 dimensions! Yippy! NOT! Actvision + Beenox= EPIC FAIL! Another rushed low profile Spider-Man game from a B, no C list Devloper! Oh and Tiger your comment sucks! I really hope they DON'T bring back the shit poker!

It would be nice to have this one a little more open. The first game was awesome, but it lost that feeling of freedom to swing and go throughout the city as you please. Maybe they could try a Batman: Arkham Asylum type of gameplay. It would be pretty awesome to swing through the "streets" of 2099.

Yeah free roaming was awesome

Too bad Noir got cut from the lineup. I enjoyed his scenarios more than the others in the first game.

Spidey (or should I say S-Man?) 2099 was probably my least favorite in SMSD. Still super psyched for this.

@Demonhunter - I agree. I thought Noir was awesome! But I can see why they wouldn't use him, probably because it's the most similar to Batman, and I think they want to do something different from that.

Awesome spidey suit. BUT COME ON! enough with all this gimmicky Noir spider man, 2099 spidey, venom spidey, FF spidey, heck even TRON spidey! I just wanna play as classic spidey in NY. and swing where ever i wanna. Best spidey ever is still SPider Man 2 >:P

Ugghhh.... I'm not excited for this.

@DAHAMMA

I COMPLETELY AGREE! I REALLY want them to reinvent the Spider-Man games. And by reinvent, I mean go back to their roots with Spider-Man. Make it JUST like Spider-Man 2: The Video Game. The past two Spidey games felt like they were part of the same VG franchise, and this one looks like the third in the series. Web of Shadows was awful, while Shattered Dimensions was decent. I have a feeling this will just be decent as well. That's not good enough for Spider-Man. A Spider-Man game has the potential to be EPIC!! In order for that to happen....

1.)Spider-Man needs to exist in a free-roam environment.

2.)He also needs to have a TON of moves he can perform. (None of that Ultimate Spider-Man Punch-Punch-Kick.)

3.)Those moves also have to be visually striking. It doesn't have to be free-flowing like in Batman: AA. They just have to be really detailed and fun to watch.

4.)KEEP THE STORY DOWN-TO-EARTH!! None of this symbiote invasion crap, or dimension hopping. Keep the story realistic and believable.

5.) Improve the story by a LOT. Web of Shadows and Shattered Dimesnions both had weak storylines. Also throw in a lot of easter eggs.

6.) Improve the voice acting. Need I say that Web of Shadows had some of the worst voice-acting of any video game?

7.) Bring in Green Goblin as the main villain. He's very underused and is a serious threat to Spider-Man. He could make for some fantastic aerial battles.

8.) Improve the graphics. Make it as photo realistic as possible. That cell-shaded crap is just an excuse to half-ass their development.

There's a lot more that I could rant about but I don't want to take up the entire comments section.

I want to keep an open mind, but reception for Shattered Dimensions wasn't very good and it doesn't seem like they've learned much. They need to look at the Infamous and Arkham games for inspiration.

wow awesome poster. i really liked Shattered dimensions.

Not going to lie I was hoping for more but lets hope it surpasses S.D. and we get a great game like Spiderman 2 or even Ultimate Spiderman (a personal fav)

what the heck they should have announced ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN 2

@BIGBMH

I'm with you on the fact that Shattered Dimensions wasn't very good. It wasn't bad, but it was just decent. (Web of Shadows sucked ASS.) I don't know where they're coughing up that bullcrap about it being the best Spidey games to date. However, I don't think they need to hover closer to Arkham Asylum. Spider-Man 2 & 3 were both amazing Spider-Man games and they need to focus more on going back to their roots. At this point, a Spider-Man 2 rehash would feel completely new and fresh.

I too need free roam. GOOD free roam, which isn't as hard as game designers seem to be making it.

Are you guys nuts Shattered Dimensions was great! They used a wacky storyline so they could bring in all sorts of bad guys! AKA Deadpool, noir Vulture, juggernaught, Electro, and Sandman just to name a few. And Since when did spiderman need to be realistic? The far fetched story with the tablet enabled you to be 4 different spidermans, that battle many different bosses, in 4 different fighting styles, 4 different dimensions, and you don't just get to the boss at the end and thats it, you fight them through the levels then at the end the boss gets more powerful for more fun. If I had any beefs with the game i'd say 2099 wasn't the most fun to play as and a damn goblin ALWAYS shows up to be the main bad guy.

Just hope that this is a sand box (free roaming) style game, as though I enjoyed shattered dimensions...can't beat being able to swing around new york as Spidey...and with the graphics from shattered dimensions this would be f'in sweet...

Really....can we just have a movie spider-man game because that would be so much better...i mean i liked SD and i enjoyed WOS a bit but i really want a game like Spider Man 2 Again...but we don't matter because VG companies think there right and we are wrong.

But i will still get it

dahamma - 3/31/2011, 8:04 AM
@indoraptor12! You brought up something I think is what the developers should really look at. It needs a realistic BELIEVABLE story. Sure spidey has many colorful villains but that doesn't mean its always gotta be traveling through dimensions, symbiote invasion and saving the world in one time zone from the other. It should be realistic and make CLASSIC spiderman feel like a powerful force to be reckoned with

I haven't played Shattered Dimensions yet, but alot of people liked it from what I hear. The last good Spider-Man I played was Web of Shadows. Spider-Man 2 game sucked

i like S:SD but idk it's kinda the same thing all over again, but i got to say 2099 was one of the best things about S:SD and i love spidey's new suit in that pic... hope they release a full pic of that suit soon!

I am not really looking too forward to this though. Shattered Dimensions was ok, but spider-man 2 is still the beast Spidey game

If they took GTA IV and plunked spidey into it...that would be interesting. Free as a bird and lots to do.

Seriously though, the mistake doesn't matter, don't worry.

If Spiderman should be more like Batman Arkam they should just make the whole thing spiderman noir. Thats all he does anyways is hide and takeout bad guys without them seeing him. Which WAS still very cool.

Will this go back to free roaming with this?
