After being released on August 5th, Suicide Squad has finally reached the end of its box office run in the United States and Canada. It did so with $325.1 million, a figure which puts it only slightly behind Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That earned $330.3 million domestically, and it's fair to say that the fact Suicide Squad - a property featuring mostly unknown characters - came so close to a movie pitting two of the world's most iconic superheroes against each other is definitely pretty shocking.
Both of these DC Comics adaptations received pretty much the same overwhelmingly negative reponse from the vast majority of critics, but these numbers may very well point to Suicide Squad being more well lived by moviegoers. It's hard to say for sure, but one thing we do know is that while Batman v Superman underperformed in North America, Suicide Squad managed to exceed expectations.
Worldwide, Suicide Squad made $745.5 million. That was without China, a territory that $100 million of Batman v Superman's $873.2 million haul hailed from. There's been no word on what the future holds in store for Task Force X, though the Harley Quinn led spinoff does seem to be moving along nicely. Still, given these numbers, it's surprising that Suicide Squad 2 hasn't been announced for 2018!
