SUPERMAN: First Official BTS Look At Milly Alcock Suited-Up As SUPERGIRL Released

Thanks to some new behind-the-scenes photos, we have our first officially-released look at Milly Alcock in costume as Supergirl from her cameo in James Gunn's Superman...

Superman is now in theaters, and in addition to introducing the world to the DCU's new big-screen Man of Steel, Milly Alcock's Supergirl makes her debut in a fun scene towards the end of the movie.

When Supes returns to the Fortress of Solitude after saving the day, his cousin Kara drops (well, crashes) by to pick up Krypto. The Girl of Steel has been partying on a planet with a red sun (the only way a Kryptonian can get drunk), and is more than a little merry.

After playing around with her super-pooch for a bit, Kara departs with a "thanks for watching him, bitch."

Now, Alcock's hairstylist Lindsay McAllister Pritchard has shared our first behind-the-scenes look at the House of the Dragon alum suited-up as Supergirl. An official still from the movie has yet to be released, but there's a good chance Kara will get her own character poster when the movie has been playing for a little longer.

Check out the shots at the link below.

During a recent interview, Alcock revealed that she suited-up as the Girl of Steel for her screen-test along with "another girl" (most likely Meg Donnelly), while recalling the "absolute fear" she felt upon learning that she'd be taking flight as our new big-screen Supergirl.

“I was kind of in disbelief. I was initially like, ‘What have I done?’” Alcock admits. “I then invited all my friends over to the house and we drank champagne.”

“During a screen test, you’re in a room with all the other women [vying for the same part] and you’re all dressed as the character. [The studio] will get you lined up in the makeup truck and put the same makeup on you all and then test you on a stage. For Supergirl, it was myself and another girl. It was really scary; I thought I was going to vomit! But it’s just fear! That’s what happens! This job has been a journey of overcoming my own fear.”

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will also star 3 Body Problem's Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle and Matthias Schoenaerts (The Old Guard) as the villainous Krem of the Yellow Hills. More recently, Aquaman star Jason Momoa joined the cast as Lobo. Krypto the Superdog is also expected to play a major role in the story.

The latest casting additions were David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Kara's parents, Zor-El and Alura.

Warner Bros. announced that our new Girl of Steel will take flight on June 26, 2026.

This take on Kara Zor-El a said to be a "less earnest and more edgy version of the iconic superheroine" as Gunn looks to move away from "previous depictions of the Girl of Steel, particularly the long-running CBS/CW series fronted by Melissa Benoist."

According to a brief synopsis, this story will follow Kara as she "travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. Along the way, she meets a young woman named Ruthye and winds up on a murderous quest for revenge."

Gunn and Peter Safran announced the Supergirl reboot during their studio press day in January of last year, when the "Gods and Monsters" DCU slate was revealed. The project will be at least partially based on King’s acclaimed comic book series of the same name from 2022.

Said Gunn at the time, “In our series we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to Earth when she was a young girl. She’s much more hardcore, she’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing.”

I'm beyond glad Supergirl is the opposite of Superman. Why she's been played so goodie-two-shoes on the big and small screens doesn't make sense. We've already got one Kryptonian who is earnestly more serious (mostly). Kara is a freaking teenager with superpowers; of course she's gonna be rebellious. Especially with no parents to guide her.

@lazlodaytona - Yeah I think that dynamic could be a lot of fun.

@lazlodaytona - For the TV series the candyfloss Pop princess worked fine, till they ran out of good ideas what to do with her, but for film I tend to agree more Rock Chic rebelious with issues makes more sense as a counter to an emotionaly stable boy scout type Superman.

After all almost every version I know of with her she was old enough to witness the fall of her planet and remember her parents thus should have issues as that is one HUGE trauma in her past she has had relatively little time to come to terms.

I mean I probably wouldn't have gone with her first cameo in his film turning up drunk but at the same time I totaly get it and makes her far more interesting even if more likely to be divided opinions on her.

@Apophis71 - TV Kara still harbored deep feelings of anger and resentment she learned to bury over the years but more than once they resurfaced. And as the character grew up through the Seasons she can't always be losing control of her cool, especially as an adult.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 7/14/2025, 5:58 AM
@NinnesMBC - For sure and that worked for the series, least at first till the quality of the narratives increasingly started slipping but I DID like that take on Supergirl even if I eventualy started getting bored of the series by the time it got to CoIE thus stopped watching all Arrowverse after that crossover event ended.

In regard to films however there is less time for that to work the same sort of way thus starting out where Kara hasn't fully suppressed those darker aspects makes sense even if it will be divisive for some.

I mean it SHOULDN'T be as folk have been fine with male characters with drink issues for instance like Tony Stark or Aquaman and past trauma driving their actions like Punisher and Batman but somehow when it is a young cute looking character it will oft get overblown pushback for whatever reason.

One of my favorite parts of the movie. So excited to see her awesome comic brought to life, Momoa is going to have a blast as Lobo

I have no real connection to the character but was surprised she popped up in Superman. Honestly kind of forgot about that even being possible.

I’ll say the audience response was interesting. Not sure calling him a bitch landed.

Apophis71
Apophis71 - 7/14/2025, 6:09 AM
@Himura - Not all know much if anything about comic Supergirl, many the Arrowverse TV series will have been the first time they got to know her at all (IF they watched it) outside of a terrible prior film version, even if almost all will have heard of her. I'll be honest I DID read Superman comics in the 70's and early 80's but never once got my hands on a Supergirl comic so I only knew her from crossovers and adaptions till I started chatting to folk at comicons/comic marts in the late 90's and 00's and started learning more about her, but most the GA likely won't have read any of her comics, a large % not even Superman ones.

I am so happy this is the Supergirl we're going forward with and not the gender bent Henry Cavill we got in Flashpoint.

@TheWinkler - Gender bent? it was just an alternate universe where kara got to earth instead of kal wasn't it lol
TheWinkler
TheWinkler - 7/13/2025, 11:55 AM
@NonPlayerC - It was, I'm just saying that as in the way she was written felt like the same energy Supes was written to have in BVS.

NonPlayerC - 7/13/2025, 11:58 AM
@TheWinkler - Yeah everyone was written kinda the same in the snyderverse, either dark and brooding or wierd and quirky lol

jst5 - 7/13/2025, 12:24 PM
@NonPlayerC - I think folks often forget comments Synder made after MOS that being he wrote Superman with the Dark Knight series and Dr Manhattan in mind.Which was a massive issue with the DCEU Superman.
NonPlayerC
NonPlayerC - 7/13/2025, 12:54 PM
@jst5 - yeah his superman projected srength and had an intimidation factor but lacked hopefulness and warmth. Corenswet brings the warmth and hopefulness but he doesn't have the intimidation level Cavill has. Can't have everything huh
jst5
jst5 - 7/13/2025, 2:00 PM
@NonPlayerC - Sure we can....Reeve pulled it off.It takes a writer and director who really understands Superman though.Corenswet can pull it off allowed.

Corenswet has the training to pull off a Reeve Superman(their acting training is pretty much the same)...Cavill is very limited as an actor.
TheWinkler
TheWinkler - 7/13/2025, 2:37 PM
@jst5 - I always assumed a lot of the obvious Dark Knight inspiration was coming from Nolan's position as producer on MoS.

But yeah, having a disconnected, god like being in mind when writing a character like Superman is poison.
jst5
jst5 - 7/13/2025, 2:54 PM
@TheWinkler - I need to resay what I posted because Synder didn't write MOS ...Goyer did with some input from Nolan. What Synder said was his input on Superman came from having Dr Manhattan in mind.Boy did it show!

Horrid suit. I hope there’s some upgrades and individuation in the costumes as the movies progress. Why can’t all Kryptonians have black hair, blue eyes, and pale skin? Such a rare look.
jst5
jst5 - 7/13/2025, 12:27 PM
@SirReginald - Probably because Kryptonians are not a "ethnicity"....do earthlings all look the same?;)
SirReginald

@jst5 - No, because we’re separated by tens of thousands of years over great distances and evolutionary diverse paths. But, they are an advanced civilisation that could have evolved to what they saw as the perfect look.
