Superman: Is He Our Super...Man?

Superman: Is He Our Super...Man?

Do we really respect the Super-Hero Mytho's in today's society?

I am writing this article for one reason and one reason only: I feel a loss of respect for our wholesome crime-fighting heroes, and this loss of respect has reached an ultimate low. We already know that Christopher Nolan has rebooted and updated the Batman mythos to a point of understanding and ultimate realization of the caped crusaders battles with the darkness.
Now, to ultimately move on from that point, there is a relevance who names himself so as Superman.
I am truly sorry if I seem objective at this point, but we are in deep need of an all encompassing super-hero by the means of Kal-El.
Zack Snyder is helming the newest of such projects involving the Man of Steel and I feel hesitsant in some degree.
There have been earlier reports of Zack abandoning his stylistic format in terms of this new Superman film. This does not trouble me in the least. What could be a great film still can and I feel will still be.
My feeling on the character is such as this:
I have already written an article prior entitled Superman Returns: Darker? or as such. I am fully aware of the confrontations that need to take place in such a film to deliver what a "Superman" audience fully deserves.
The thing that troubles me is this: In conveyance I beleive that Superman is that "white bread" beacon of hope. By this I mean that Superman is and has been outdated by the repetive brand of "edgy" heroes such as Chris Nolans's "The Dark Knight".
In the same sense, I beleive that Superman can and will withold his bearing on society. If this is insinuating that the newest installment will bring forth the best of the Man of Steel, then so be it.
Any darkness surrounding Superman will bring itself forth as so. The reliance upon the Man of Steel will, of course, be challenging.
I will objectively say that no film has recorded his presence correctly. Christopher Reeve's embodiment of the character was well beyond par, but I think in todays standards of comics captured on the big screen the fans desreve a bit more.
Superman needs to kick serious ass. That's what he is genuinely about. I beleive in the recent developements and I can seriously see a portrayal of the Kryptonian son as we've never before seen in a motion picture.
How is it that we can bring back a peice of American history in such respectful fashion?
This is our number ONE. Our FIRST. This is SUPERMAN.
Here's hoping that his story is captured for the best...

This is a nicely, written editorial piece. Kudos to you "superfan714" !

;D

Hopefully THIS time Superman will get a proper portrayal. He knows how to fight...he KNOWS kryptonian martial arts and trained in boxing by Wildcat.

He can fu*king FIGHT. They just need to finally bring out that part of him on film. They have yet to allow him the chance to fight. This film may break that unwritten rule- NO FIGHTING IN A SUPERMAN MOVIE.

One guy said to me on this site one time that he noticed from all my comments I'm a very "passionate Superman fan" well i guess yeah...i kinda am. I just want Superman to finally get the movie-due that all the other so-called "cooler" heroes are getting. With all the amazing things Superman can do, he should have movies that are waaaaaay better than the grounded Batman films. Yet sadly...I'd say the Batman films are way better so far. Not just comparing the new ones but even the older ones. Superman needs a movie that will not only shut Batman up but will also make GL's head spin.

I just want Superman to be freed from donner, allowed to fight and to finally have a film that will make people think- "hey maybe i was wrong to make fun of Superman all this time..."

A lot of people insult Superman. And as Snyder said it himself- the movies thus far haven't done anything to change that.

I think that The Man of steel will be fantastic it has a good director and a good cast so far. those are two things that help make a great movie.

A tad short for an editorial, but I fully agree with your thoughts. Superman is a memorable superhero who deserve a great movie that stays true to his characer.

It is good to see how the Man of Steel relates to everybody, but not in a way that he have to be a dark and gritty character to show how "human" he is.
With Zod being the possible villain, the fight sequence of the movie will be pretty impressive (like that Hancock movie). And the story of the movie; well Birthright is the best way to go to make a modern day Superman..

So yeah, Superman better be impressive when realeased.

Nicely well written and so very truthful. Have him travel the world and learn some self defense techniques and other uses.

Agreed I see it as a cycle people will be into the darker hero stuff for a while, but it will get old. When all the hero's are as scummy and imperfect as I am, Whats the point?

The audience needs a breath of fresh air with a Superman that is utterly a boyscout, an inhuman image of nobility. who comes in and when there is a problem he fixes it, no compromises, he breaks through impossibility and saves everyone against all odds.

I have always seen superman as a savior icon and I hope he is portrayed as such, in a world so depressing, with media that is all edgy gritty and dark I want to see that beacon of light and believe that there is an existence other than the one we all live in.

Superman is still very relevant. Unfortunately there is a growing faction of people out there who want to "modernize" Superman, starting with the suit. My opinion, is that if you mess around with the basic recipe, your going to get exactly what you were trying to get, but you will find that you don't like it one bit. If you want to make Superman relelvant, make him relatable. Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman is a Kansas farm boy who had to grow up learning how to deal with abilities far beyond his peers. Thankfully he had a good set of adoptive parents who taught him good values and a moral center. Now he has to find his way in the world, make a living, and balance his personal life, professional life, and his life as a superhero. Good luck with that pal. Better you than me.

Exactly, if anyone needs a character makeover it's Clark Kent, not Superman. I'd like to see more Clark in this film, mixed with some awesome Superman action of course. But Clark in my opinion is a more easier character to relate to than Superman (Although, they're the same person).

Thanks blackcelebration. I usually get ripped apart on this site for my opinion. I agree that CK needs a character makeover. If I see a bumbling oaf in the Daily Planet news room it better not be Clark! I've been saying this from the beginning, if you are raised on a farm, go to a university and study journalism, and get hired by the dominant newspaper in the country, then there is no way you are going to pass off as a clumsy doofus. Clumsy gets you injured or killed doing farm work. Shy and awkward gets you nowhere in the world of journalism.

@LP4...You know that all of the Donner-heads out there are still looking for that quintessetial movie that continues the Chris Reeve version of Superman. They seem to forget that the Donner/Lester version also gave us Superman 3 & 4 as well.

@BigK1337 - I agree 100% I think that Zod is a good villain to start out with even tho we have already seen him on Superman 2 but this could be a more sinister Zod. I really hope that the action sequences are good like Hancock's because Hancock was a better Superman movie than Superman Returns lol.
