Though it may seem like a trivial thing to many, quite a few fans are still very passionate about Superman's undies!
The debate about whether the Man of Steel should/shouldn't wear his classic red trunks on the outside of his iconic costume always resurfaces whenever a new live-action movie is in the works, and James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU slate announcement has reignited the discussion.
Christopher Reeve wore the trunks in Richard Donner's movies, of course, and Brandon Routh followed suit in Superman Returns. Then, back in 2011, DC Comics launched the "New 52," and introduced a new take on the Man of Tomorrow whose costume was notably sans shorts.
Henry Cavill then ditched the trunks for Man of Steel in 2013, and most fans seemed happy enough with the change - but there are still those who'd like to see the legendary hero return to his original look.
Gunn has now shared a Twitter poll to see where his followers land on the subject, and so far, the trunks have it!
Gunn makes it clear that this is just a bit of fun and the poll will not influence his decision, but we'll still be very curious to see the final results.
Right now, all we know about the Superman: Legacy is that it's set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, and will focus on the early days of the character.
“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”
